Was reading the thread. Could not help but reflect upon my journey as well. Failure hurts, and it hurts deep.

The pain, the sting of the failure though diminishes, never perishes. You only live to learn with it.

To all the comrades who are yet to find success : you shall find the light soom. Godspeed.

Perseverance is rewarded. Sooner or later. Keep faith. Destiny has a place for everyone.

@Akshay_Hegade Hi Akshay!

A couple of years back, I was in a similar position like you. I can only imagine how shattering you must be feeling right now. Putting 5-6 years of your life, at the peak of youth, chasing a dream that ends up merely being a mirage, is gut wrenching. Nobody can understand this feeling. You see your friends moving ahead in their lives, you see the world carrying forward as if nothing has changed, and you see all those things that could have been yours.

Let me tell you brother, there is a big wide world outside of the UPSC preparation world. There are tons of people, doing crazy good for the world. Outcome of UPSC journey is not the end of the world. Let me repeat, it is not the end of the world. Deep down you most probably know this am sure. But just consider it a gentle reminder from someone who was in the same phase as you couple of years back and can say things with the confidence of hindsight.

I don't know you personally or your family background or your motivation to prepare for this exam. But one thing I can take from your journey is that you are a fighter. Putting in sustained efforts for a long period of 5-6 years for your dream is a mark of a fighter. It shows perseverance, grit, and focus. I understand that the desired goal has not been achieved and it seems like all these years have all been in vain. But that's okay. I won't romanticize the preparation struggle, but I know that you will come out of this stronger.

If you have prepared with honesty, giving in the required hours, reading mandatory books, writing tests, then no matter what the outcome, you should not feel that you have betrayed your parents. Result was never in your hands. Hardwork was. And you did that. Writing three mains is testament to that. Give it time. Don't let this exam crush your spirits. Life is much bigger than this. You have almost 3/4th of your life ahead of you, don't let this one result stop you from doing all the great things that you can.

Wishing you all the best brother!

PS: I left UPSC prep three years back after three attempts. Working in a corporate job now.

Brother, from what I understood from PSIR preparation.

Though it has fair overlap with GS2.But getting good marks is more difficult ,as you hv to write in language of political science.Mention keywords ,quote relevant scholars.Major difficulty comes in consolidating the subject knowledge. As study material is vast, have to stick to your basic resouces,do value addition.Having good peer discussion group is also major factor in subject like psir.Everyone's writing style approach is uniue, sharing and discussing divese perspectives can help to retain more hold & interest in the subject.

My advice would be- Have look at syllabus and PYQs of PSIR

See how toppers copy are written, you will get idea of preparation level needed

If you still wish to go -Can Join trending institute for subject

I hope my views helps you somehow.

All the best bro!!

Out with Sociology optional. I was expecting at least an interview call this year. Did all the right things post pre 2022 failure. Papers in exam went fine as well ( except optional paper 1, but that also was not too messed up). Was scoring good in mocks. No idea what went so wrong. A close friend of mine committed suicide day before yesterday (Non UPSC friend, was a doctor at safdarjung). Just too much to handle at once. Heart feels very heavy and mind isnt working properly. Have been having anxiety since last 3-4 months.

Slowly trying to get back up, one day at a time. Have decided 2024 will be the last and final attempt.

hello bro, i wanted to know whether you are planning to keep socio as your optional or changing it. also, could you tell me what issues you have been facing with this optional? Is the level of questions becoming too tough to answer them accurately, or is the demand of questions too difficult to decipher. As you said, what makes you think that your paper 1 was not as per your expectations?

Since 2024 is your last, what changes are you planning to incorporate now? Your self analysis if shared here will be highly valuable.

@tedmosby why are u reading gallian?

Modern ka question muskil aayega to hona nhi especially euclidean domain UFD ka

Aur baaki isomorphism, Lagrange theorem , cayley , ring ideal k questions to ims k notes pdne se ho jaate h

Aur maths me bhut repetition rehta h, so I  want to know what motivates you to diversify your source so much ?

I actually wanted conceptual clarity in the Ring Theory part because the material currently available in the market is not sufficient for that purpose. But yes looking back, I feel that doing Gallian was unnecessary and I shouldn't have done it. I should have stuck to revising PYQs multiple times. Honestly, I should have just concentrated on the High Yielding areas.

I guess too much emphasis on clarity of concepts made that saying became true- "Gaon bachane ke chakkar mai purra sheher jala diya" :D because I overemphasised on doing tough topics that I forgot to do High yielding areas properly. I could not revise CP & NA and I thought that since I am a CS Grad, I will manage them in examination hall (and boy, oversight would have been an understatement for what happened in P2). After post-mains rant got over, I strictly analysed and found that overemphasis on tough topics made me lose crucial marks in easy topics *sigh* (I got all the CP & NA questions wrong in Sec B and got the MA, FD & Mech Qs correctly). Also not to forget, I had my PG midsem exams on 20th Sept so I had to travel back from the exam centre to the college (in another city) to give that.

Lesson learnt: Don't worry about "getting the edge". First consolidate what you have. Target the High Yielding areas more and in case if there's something tough with low RoI, just leave it. [The amount of wisdom you get after failing for the 4th time is unparalleled xD]
