Football- News, Rumours, Analysis, gossip and much more.....

Let's create a small community of football lovers out there. This thread intends to add value to our knowledge of the game and to hone our understanding about the game. Although football comes with banter, let us try to keep the discussion objective and civil to the maximum extent possible.

Both Messi and Ronaldo are the legends of the game. Period. So, please do not bring up this debate :)

@Jurgen_klopp that is true but what can he do anyway after Kane has publicly made it clear that he wants to leave and honestly can't criticise his decision, Spurs are in shambles at the moment

Two teams that have exceeded the expectations so far in Euro are the Netherlands and Italy (especially Italy; might even see a repeat of 2012) and probably the most underwhelming team have been English (with all the hype). Why is Southgate not giving Sancho, Grealish, etc a good run?@AzadHindFauz @Jurgen_klopp @babu_bisleri @SergioRamos

Southgate is just a coward manager. He's being conservative in not giving them game time. Apparently, they are not fit for playing in such a major tournament straight away (he said). I don't understand this logic at all. Grealish carried Villa single-handedly last season. Sancho is a proven match-winner for Borussia. Had he given time to them and England performed poorly, he would have been criticized even more. That's what he must be thinking!

Sterling should sit out tonight if England wants to win this one. I think Sancho might get some game time tonight after all the criticism Southgate has been subjected to for not playing him.

Yeh brilliant logic southgate ka meri samajh ke to bahar hai.

England are woefully underperforming and it is down to Coach's stubbornness. Idk what system is he trying to implement. Even Kane looks isolated at times.

totally, his logic of not considering them fit to play on the big stage is beyond me...I mean Rice and Phillips never played in europe but they are doing fine then why not Sancho? Having said that I still can't believe England have trusted their golden generation to this bloke while a certain Arsene Wenger is sitting at home :P

He was offered the job, but he said that an Englishman would be more suitable for the role. Clearly, he was wrong!

@KingSlayer23 english teams are very much overhyped every tournament...media gives them too much attention like its coming home........i dont think mason mount, declan rice are that much good player to start in euros where they will compete against likes of kante, pogba, wijnaldum, veratti, rodri....plus gareth southgate is too defence minded manager, there was no use of playing rice and phillips against small teams like scotland
italy was pretty much good team since mancini took over and i think they went quite under radar in qualification

I really want England to win their group. They would then have to meet 2nd placed team of Group F(Fra, Ger, Por).

well, normally we do see that defensive teams in international tournaments go all the way but what Southgate is trying to do is either too high of a tactical genius for us simpletons or simply no tactics at all :P

and about Italy... I can't believe I am rooting for them now.... I have disliked them since Euro 2012 :P but this time they are a delight to watch

As much as I’d like, England cannot afford to play Grealish, Foden, Mount, Sterling, Sancho, Kane, Rashford all together. It’s either Mount or Grealish, Foden or Sancho. Till a few months ago, I was of the opinion that Southgate is a stupid manager for choosing Mount over Grealish but I differ now. Most of the teams play a low block against England, Grealish wouldn’t be too effective. Also, are we forgetting that even the currently benched players have been given ample chances to see if that makes their attack click. Unfortunately, what sounds good on paper doesn’t always work in real life.

People saying Rice and Mount aren’t elite level and then count Pogba among the elites, idk what football y’all are even watching. Kante plays a different role to Rice, Gini’s role is different. Comparing unrelated players isn’t right here.

Rice and Phillips make a solid defensive partnership. England need that.

That all being said, even I’d like a little more adventurism from Southgate. He’s got the chance to do it tonight.

Portugal’s defence has greatly disappointed even with 2 DMs. Semedo drew way too much flak for what was essentially a tactical problem he couldn’t have done anything about.

And while we’re criticising, France? What role does Rabiot even have? Is he a ball winner? Is he there for ball progression? I absolutely don’t understand why he’s getting game time in a team dripping with talent. France is the one underperforming in my opinion. Have a better striker than Giroud in Karim, a firing Mbappe, an always awesome Kante and a pretty stable defence.

Italy would be the favourites at this point. A rock solid defence, such a free flowing attack. They’ve got a good mix of young talent and experience plus superb chemistry.

Germany too look hungry and determined again.

I’m also loving how Czech Rep are playing. I personally want them to do really well after reading a lot about how the players are racists, the nation is too and what not.

Also, the intensity of the Azzurris during their national anthem!
