It's a lone fight, and it's must be fought alone now. Any search of study partner, peer group, guidance programme, coaching, mentorship, etc etc is futile and most likely not going to serve the purpose- at least in my case. Clearing this exam doesn't depend on one's capacity- I was fully capable but I couldn't. Excelling here depends on whether or not one is focussed, and able to consistently devote a sufficient number of quality hours. Enough of today's lecture. :)

you may be right. but the so called right approch not worked this time. I am in search of what went wrong. and guess what m still searching. i know at least two ppl who ticked 100 questions are writing mains. they were not even close to my prep:-

1. one ex-manager a PSB : was busy with share market investment. hardly solved 10 mocks. was scoring 70+ in tests writing mains.

2. Another one crying whole time that i left my material in ORN cant study, this lockdown ruined my attempt. age is the issue or left attempt n all that. Can tell you that he was not read even single month CA is writing mains.

#PM_tukka_maro yojna made their day. I was consistently getting 120+ in vajiram and forum tests and now writing this post.

Now can you tell me what to do? Chill and do whatever you can. :)

No one can deny that Prelims from last 3 years and more so in 2020 was risk rewarding, payoff to hardwork is minimal.

After 11:30 on 4th oct to calculating their marks most of the candidates were unsure and even afraid.

I used to think I have mastered Prelims stage, after I cleared 2019 with 122 marks but I was wrong. I was getting marks in 120s, 130s, 140s, 150s in mocks. Even in the hardest ones and random ones I was getting more than 110. But waht happened in exam hall was unbelievable.

But till result I was sure of clearing it as my marks were min 98 with 4-5 controversial considered negative.  But I couldn't.

So my conclusion is:

Luck plays a larger role

Take risks, go with 95 questions atleast

Find backups

What I feel about changes in the exam pattern:

Prelims should be made qualifying type exam with 40/45% marks and write mains

Or atleast 15x people should be called for mains

Release of marks/ keys/ cutoff by UPSC at every stage. If a person want to change Optional it is impossible if one waits for marks in mains as next ones forms are already filled.

Or Prelims paper should be normal one like it used to be, let the cutoff skyrocket. Atleast efforts to be blamed not luck.

PS: baaki kuch hona jaana h nahi, to agle ki tayari kro, thoda luck maang lena aur backup sochlo to aur badhiya, U/R category students can feel kangali m aata geela 40% seats are yours so at prelims stage atleast 1000 less will be selected after EWS reservation. (Ab koi reservations pe gyan mat pelna, mein bas facts bta rha hu)
