The way relaxations are on the cards...u never know...UPSC may conduct exam on 31st may.

@Charlie We have not yet reached the peak because of the lockdown.
But continued lockdown is not a sustainable solution, and as soon as the restrictions will be relaxed, the cases will start increasing exponentially.
We have seen the same thing in last 2-3 days when the daily count has been making new highs every day.

Bro whether we have reached peak or not ...what are chances of upsc delaying

@Tokyo Bro just ponder over these facts

0. Corona cases have risen in the past 3 days. They may rise further due to relaxations.
a. IIT, Neet, Cbse exams are also important but are delayed.
b. What if corona cases on 5 th June are detected and traced from Upsc centre. Questions will be asked.
c. My father works in education department of certain state. I asked him about exam centres. He told that they are now quarantine centers.
d. Why Capf paper, due for August was deferred ?
e. Trains, buses and airways are not open for 100 % use.
F. No one from UPSc debunked the Prelims postponement theory, post Minister's interview.

Yes...but point is when will upsc clarify its stance

I kind of agree with him. I gave my first 2 attempts with full time preparation but I joined a job in January this year and now giving my final attempt along with it.

I think it has helped me go through the crisis period smoothly and also made me feel more confident in general. Also, I believe I can look at other career paths as well now.

So I suppose it makes sense to look up for other opportunities after one or two serious attempts.

This I also realised after my 3rd attempt.

^ if this fellowship period is beyond 1.5 year ,I would suggest going for mba.... for upsc aspirant not looking for corporate jobs irma specializes in rural mba , highly oriented towards something which an upsc aspirant would connect with( avg pay is lesser than tier 1 schools obviously, but probably at par with tier 2)
then ofc there is tiss with multiple courses ( HR course stands out ..at par  with xlri )

if anyone is looking for an exit from upsc he/sheshould take a year workex and then go for mba/higher stuff.. post such fellowships anyway either one has to plunge in for upsc or go for higher studies or full time job..

@sunnykumarroy658377 Checked from 3 keys and max discrepancy in all 3 keys is for 4 passages. Basically all the maths ones are 100 % correct so i see no chance of losing in that. There are 2 questions jisme 2 keys se mera answer match ho rha hai and ek key mein different. By and large 2 -3 passages mein difference lag raha hai. Har key se calculate karke meri gaadi 75 above hai still scared.I have attempted more passages than reasoning and maths ones but maths mein sahi hai saare bas yeh dar hai passage mein koi landmark discrepancy na aajaye joh 3 keys mein nahi aa rhi hai phir bhi kuch guide kardo yaar.

@sunnykumarroy658377 Bro, in the ULB question, I feel the answer should be A only. The passage has been picked from this article

And the author here has stressed upon charging the consumers.

Also for Right to Privacy wala passage, the answer can be A- 1 and 2 only. There were different answers in different coaching keys where some were marking 2 only as the answer but this article from which passage was lifted clearly talks about role of State to have institutions to ensure Right to Privacy

Regarding Asset Allocation question, the most appropriate answer should be A.

It was taken from this article and focus is clearly on diversification to minimize risks

thnx yaar, its answer is certainly distrubiting wealth, whole pasaage or article isa bout divserification of risk(portfolio)..

Bhai I have also marked A i.e distribution par yeh institutes ..even CL which is mainly for CAT gives answer B ...

Therefore, relying on foreign investment in the long term is not an economically sound policy. Policies must be undertaken to revive domestic private investment. The lowering of interest rates may not suffice in the current situation of aggregate demand deficiency, a consequence of weak foreign demand as well as poor domestic rural demand because of two consecutive monsoon failures. One long-term solution is substantial public investment in education, health and environment, which will not only improve India’s socio-economic condition but also crowd in domestic private investment.

@Aurang_mirasudar Excellent work brother! I'd be thankful if you could clear one doubt I have. In question on malnutrition, the article you have mentioned talks about "delay of marriage, breastfeeding, safe drinking water and vaccination" as solutions. Couldn't find monitoring of PDS by Union Govt anywhere. So, don't you think answer should beB) 2, 3, 4 and 5instead of A) 1, 2, 3 and 4 ?

I am already out  so please take this view as obejctive view as i have no stakes involved .How can we guess the crux of whole article by viewing few  statements from it .People who have searched  all articles have done a excellent  job but if upsc is assuming that people can get the assumption of passage by reading it ,which is just a few line from the article it is certainly  a foolish assumption  itself .upsc need to be more serious about selecting candidates for highest buersratic offices of country.

U right bro..the problem lies in framing question...the question starts with assumption...which means we have to consider ,what  going in mind of author...which makes things difficult ..the more analytical approach would be to see 2019 RC answer from official answer N then reading original article..

Bhai jo yeh article mein hai...should now we treat it as final ..or abhi there is controversy regarding them....????

It has increased my marks to 85 from current 75. Should start mains prep asap.

Same here but articles given by@Aurang_mirasudar  are real source....I cross checked with 2019 paper ..by looking into articles ..and upsc takes answers from that articles....assumption is first line verbatim around the image....so if u want to check answers which upsc will give...it is written in articles provided by aurang.

Therefore, it is time to think of non-conventional sources for electricity generation such as solar, wind and tidal power......

So option 1 and 2 ....but every institute gave 2 only

@Tokyo

it is either 3 or 123 for dams monsoon RC

but since author emphasizes only on creating space prior to monsoon.. will second option be wrong..hence 3 only

For statement 3

The world over, dams are constructed mainly for the purposes of irrigation, power generation, and flood control. While the first two roles are acknowledged, the role of dams in flood control has always been underestimated. It is unfortunate that in both irrigation and hydel projects, flood control is completely ignored.

For statement 2

However, it is unfortunate that the maximum amount of water is stored in reservoirs even before the close of the monsoon, only to ensure greater electricity generation and irrigation.

(Note risk is due to electricity generation and irrigation both...not hydropower alone)

hence most likely answer is 3 only here

Also the overall crux of article is “

There should be space for greater storage of water in reservoirs before the onset of monsoon

But the line 'before the close of the monsoon' also imply 'during monsoon' it must not be fully filled and the article also says about over dependence on hydel power means (Option a) is correct. So left with (option d)i.e.1,2 and 3

Yes 123 answer hoga

@Rakhmabai Please don't rely on CL answer keys. Even I got panicky when I checked. I cross-checked their previous Csat answerkeys (2018 and 2019) with the UPSC answer key. They mostly get 5-6 RCs wrong.

For, Asset allocation- have marked B( though now I believe that the answer is A)
FDI-B
Dam: D

Didn't attempt the question on gas based economy.

Asset allocation - why cant it be b . In the passage it was mentioned people prefer to keep money idle, unproductive but safe fearing risks in investment.so they should invest to generate wealth. But im 100 % sure that upsc will go with A following previous trends.

  1. According to Constitution of India, A person who eligible to vote can be made a minister in a state for six months even if he/she is not a member of the legislature of that state
  2. According to the representation of people act, 1951, a person convicted of a criminal offence and sentenced to imprisonment for at least five years is permanently disqualified from contesting an election even after his release from prison.

Which of the above given statements is/are correct?

(a) 1 only

(b) 2 only

(c) Both 1 and 2

(d) Neither 1 nor 2

Answer: A

(If one overthinks the answer could be ‘D’ – overthinking that Voter eligibility is not mentioned in the Constitution and Age 25 is not mentioned. As you know UPSC doesn’t reward overthinking. Here the question is related to checking the concept rather than fact)

S1: Not quite technically true, since one who is eligible to vote isn’t necessarily eligible to be a Minister (for e.g. on grounds of age). But, since UPSC has used the term a voter “can” and not “every voter”, S1 is correct since many voters who meet the eligibility to be a Member of Parliament can be made a Minister.

For e.g. here are few correct and incorrect statements:

CORRECT: A voter CAN become a minister for six months.

CORRECT: A voter eligible to become a Member of Parliament CAN become a minister for six months.

CORRECT: Every voter that is eligible to become a Member of Parliament CAN become a minister for six months.

First statement is only part of a larger correct statement, still true.

INOCRRECT: EVERY voter can become a minister for six months.

U should have mentioned the source i.e insights.

Even in drishti ias video sir said...upsc won't go for micro thing...broadly they look..therefore answer would be A

Meri alag hi samasya ho gayi hai. Answersheet me count koya tha to 79 bubbles the, aur question paper me 83 dikh rahe. Samajh me nahi aa raha ki sahi wale miss huwe hain ya galat wale? Aur naye calculation se marks me ab aur variation ta gayi. Ab 91-102 ghoom raha marks. Khararnak anxiety hai, considering it’s my last attempt.

I am already 31. Was in a well paying job. Quit kiya in 2018, to dedicate more time to preparation, after successive close failures in prelims. Score 114 in prelims last year. Couldn’t clear mains.

And this year again, I am stuck at God knows where.

Have rejected good job offers from

abroad last year for preparation.

And when I quit my job, and took this course, people close to me abandoned me, including my fiance.

I have paid a huge price for this journey, and cannot recall when I slept for 6 hours last time.

And after all this, UPSC throws this lottery selection system paper.

I question all rhe wisdoms now like “Hardwork pays off”, “Sacrifices pay off”, and “Upsc sets paper for selecting civil servants”.

I lost 4 years, a job, family life, fiance, self confidence, socially vibrant life, and trust in the system.

I will do something good for sure, but the dream of be the part of policy making, and implementation is at God’s mercy now.

Sorry, I made it a sad story. But there is a reason for it.

Those who are reading it, must know that this exam is not just about hardwork, but about strong luck factor too. When all things are in place, then only you will get through. It’s our duty to work hard, but that alone won’t get you through. There are things beyond that too. Much like Nepolean. He was not just brilliant, but extremely lucky too, and he always made sure he chose his commanders who were invariably lucky people.

Anyways fingers crossed.

I wish luck to everyone. Everyone has worked hard here.

Bhai have u marked side by side ....??

My 2 cents with regards to cutoff

Last year (2019) Everyone knew the cutoff was going to be 95-104 , thats A range of around 10 marks, Shankar ias prediction was 99-102 i.e. A range of 4 marks.  In short they covered the 40% range of probable cutoff and still got it wrong😂

which factors can lead to increase in Cut off this year

Decrease in vacancies - Yes

Tukkafication - No!!! There were many questions the answers to which was not a simple D. Also in 2018,2019 you had similar Dfication sentiments running around

which Factors can lead to decrease in cutoff

1.The toughest csat in recent history . According to a survey 46% of students are either failing or in borderline in paper 2

2. Lack of sheer number of absolute sitters.

3. Almost 2/3rd of Questions had multiple statements . People didnt had the luxury of time in this paper

4. Inflation - People despite getting a 100% conformity that their answer is not the best answer are still counting the marks for that question. This leads to overall inflation in market

5. Last year 40% of people on Telegram posted their scores tobe above 100 , the sample was 12000 votes. This year 40% of people on telegram claiming their score to be above 95

The overall cutoff has to be - 95 (+-1)

What is borderline case in csat....?? Even a person with 80 is also borderline...since noone is sure of passages

Vajiram csat key. Few mistakes in RC

Bhai what do u mean by few ...4 toh sidhe he galat diya hai.....

6.7k views
@Equalizer that’s what I’m saying. It does not change.

UPSC ‘strategically’ gives only those paragraphs that capture the entire essence of the article.

One more reason why UPSC relies on the whole article for RC answers is because it wants to avoid students contesting their answers. If UPSC itself decides the answers to RCs, there’ll be no uniformity and its too much discretion in their hands. But if UPSC shifts the burden to the article author, it’s much easier.

And we all know how conservative UPSC is. It does not take chances. In 2018, UPSC said Aadhaar could be connected to ‘any electronic device.’ We all know that’s patently wrong but since Nandan Nilekani himself said it in an article, it’s right for UPSC!

Han bhai ...that is y aurang_mirasadar key is most apt

@Equalizer Bro instead of claiming this, you could have gone through last year RC and I find what UPSC has given in the answer, they are verbatim from the whole article though based on assumptions and rational inference.

Bhai ...this is how I also checked....last year ek question tha on monosaccharide soemthing...uska answer D hai as per upsc and everyone has given C in their key

4.3k views
@Tokyo Logically also why would UPSC make its own answers when it can directly pick it from the article, as we are seeing they are word to word same, just that they have proof if anyone starts claiming their answer is correct, because in RC everyone can have a different inference.

If indeed essence does not change, no need to look at the whole article. We can still arrive at the answer by reading only the comprehension.

In the csat RC it is clearly written- answer it based upon the given passage. "The passage of 10 lines given in the question paper".not from the whole articles that you find from the original sources.

Upsc answers in both GS and CSAT have always been based on source passages and verbatims. Always. No exception. As a matter of rule. Whether one likes it or not.

I think it's like this :

1. Criticial inference / message / summary of the passage can be arrived and the answers given are from the RC itself.

2. Questions in which assumptions are asked might be taken up from the article

If you see and try to get a pattern most of the coaching institutes have different keys with assumption questions and almost 12-13 answers are not debatable with 6 keys , they are clear and same.

Coaching keys are most of the time wrong on assumption based RC, In such questions you can't look for RC and must look article. What's the point of asking for assumption if it's explicitly mentioned in RC itself . To substantiate further Check shankar's keys in 2018 and 19 . In 2018,nine of their RC's are wrong and 6 of them are assumption based ones only.

In the 2019 paper, there are 14 assumption based RCs out of 30, please show me any two RCs which could not have been answered correctly on the basis of the given passage. Even if the assumptions have been lifted directly from the original article, they can still be answered based on the passage if one thinks logically. There may be an error in one or two questions. I attempted all the RCs in 2019 and out of assumption based only 1 went wrong (the food varieties one) as per official UPSC key.

There is no need of getting scared of RCs and indulging in overthinking and guessing what might have been written in the original article in future CSAT exams. Choose the option which you find correct based on the passage. If you think logically, at the max 1 or 2 will go wrong.

Cheers!

Have u seen visionias key bro....what are their chances of rc to get correct?

then amrabad has even more core critical area 2166 than sundarbans 1330 which quoted.hence sundarbans is ruled out

@Tokyo seems correct except some pssages which vary from articles.

ab lets stop RC..kinda fed up of RC discussion 🙂

@Tokyo there are two passages that are differing from the answers he provided. 85% agriculture one and economic liberalisation one. When you look at the articles the answers aurang provided seems appropriate but when you look solely at the passage the answer vision provided seems correct too. So it's upto you to trust him when he says the answers from articles are correct. Personally I think the answers aurang provided with articles are correct.

Yes..my brain says aurang is right but heart says may be visionias is right because my answer matches with vision...
