Seeing the nature of gs papers , what do you all think about cut off lower than last year or on similar lines?

2.7k views

@dancingminion10-20 marks less is a probability....UPSC is literally breaking all the myths of markets...good for the newbies coming for prep.

2.7k views

@Vikacrosssing 790 seems lil bit unrealistic but lets see.....unpredictable gs 2 and gs 3 and even some questions of gs 1 will offset essay effect.

2.7k views

@CaesarBro, how many questions in each gs(1,2,3) you wrote effectively?

2.7k views

@CaesarThats really good man.

2.7k views

@CaesarNo, you can also rely on your at least 10 best answers in each gs paper, they might throw some pleasant surprises...all the best for your optional paper bro.

2.7k views

Apart from thinkers in paper 1 , memorise at least two thinkers from each topic of syllabus...Honestly its not easy to memorise and each and every thing and moreover questions in paper 2 are mostly current affairs oriented...we have to use at least 2 thinkers to validate our answers.
On 2-3 sheets, prepare a list of at least 2 thinkers from topics like communalism, informal market, environment , caste conflicts , feminism, religion, etc.Apart from 2 thinkers giving general points in answers could also work.
One more thing , please in thinkers of paper 1 , at least give one or two criticisms while concluding the answers.

2.7k views

@STYou could revise them tomorrow during 2 hrs break and 3 hrs in night before sleeping....we would be familiar with most of the questions but to give it sociological touch, just validate answers with at least two thinkers and you also take help from thinkers from paper 1.
examples question - phenomenon of feminism in india
ans - relative deprivation theory, strain theory, and then xyz like awareness, literacy, empowerment etc.

whats this handwritten notes of toppers nowadays?? Naye naye method aa rahe hain market me..

2.5k views

Friends sorry to post something different ...I bought sociology (english) pen drive course in july 2019 for this year mains. Now done with this mains thing.I want to sell the course for a negotiated price as I purchased it for Rs 33000(receipt available).Teacher name - Bibhash Sharma sir..Course is really nice. Anyone interested, please let me know.

2.5k views

bhai, once u mentioned u had socio marks in 280s in last attempts....whats your expectation this year??..jus worried about socio optional, a make or break paper.@ST

2k views

@STOK bro..no worries..the momentum in sociology would be with you this year as well...even 280s in socio coupled with 400s in gs papers would put up decent total...prayers and wishes for you bhai.

2k views

@STatb bhai.

2k views

@TETRACYCLINEat least 20 marks dip considering the level of toughness of gs papers and increase in no. of seats....UPSC brought prelims cut off to two digits. We should not be shocked to see even a bigger dip in mains cut off considering the "presumed conflict between UPSC and coachingwalas.". Just an opinion.

1.9k views

@vvvikas0078212Bhai I was talking about increase in seats compared to previous year i.e 2018. Its in 890s , I think.

1.9k views

The silence is absolutely chilling. Its a matter of day or two or three. Lets keep the forum alive.

1.9k views

Delighted to see good bonding here on forum page, that's how should we treat each other. Envious environment serves no purpose. My best wishes to everyone here.

@kochikaameAgree.

@KatsumotoSeriously , the best days of my life. Those 9 days. Best wishes bro.

1.9k views

@zombielandNostalgic man. Can't thank enough to my parent. More than me, my parent were very happy. Wish I always remain a source of happiness for them.

2k views

Quiet anxious. Anybody who appeared in mains 2018, did you find the papers difficult this year?? Whats your take on cut off?? Any guess on how much UPSC awards in below average to excellent answer?? Just the last phase of self evaluation.

1.9k views

@zombielandAgree yaar.☺

1.9k views

Irrespective of marking pattern, could there be a dip in cut-off ? If so, by how much?

2k views

@Caesarseems like a CSAT question.

Silence is so freaking loud.

2k views

@IthriveoncocaineI would better cross the road. There are other actions which have grave moral implications. Eg if you are in hurry and suddenly you saw few lumpens harassing a girl, in this case no action would amount to grave moral implication.
However following the rules would always be a preferred case.

2k views

@TETRACYCLINEI can understand, just asking a question about optional- would a combo of papers completion + 60% correct answers in both papers be enough to drag the score to 270s ?

2k views

@zombielandIts socio bhai.

@Kira0705Omen??

What a ferocious journey. In prelims thread, you interact with many. In mains thread, you interact with some. In upcoming interview thread, you interact with few. The way UPSC filters is eerie. God bless. Hope once again we all interact with each other once the results are published.

2.1k views

@CaesarA very underestimated factor to achieve the said target is social capital. Without it, it would be difficult to achieve it. Frequent riots, unrest , distrust among citizens and between citizen and state etc would derail this. A sound economic growth coupled with healthy democracy index, social harmony, adaptation and mitigation etc would take take us to the target.

1.9k views

@dancingminion7 pm is the deadline to call it a day.

1.9k views

@CaesarRationally, it would have minimal inpact on our credibility. The implementation of CAA is a response to historical background of our partition. It gives citizenship to persecuted religious minorities in three theocratic states subject to a time deadline.
Regarding NRC , it is not implemented as of now. The rumours, misinformation and lies about the above two would try to dent our credibility in international arena unless countered. (more to say and write but trying to keep it in interview mode.)

1.9k views

@CaesarThat has to be reflected in bilateral relationships with these countries. If India's bilateral relationship with countries and neighbours barring Pakistan deviates from normal curve in the time to come, then only any conclusion regarding credibility could be arrived. Afghanistan is an exception to our partition but sure there are issues of "religious suffocation" for minorities. India in fact showed an exemplary action of compassion. (A lot to be said again on this matter. I am assuming that was a counter question from board.?).

2k views

@CaesarA good point.

Things to do before result is published :

  1. Prepare a stock of questions and their answers (in interview mode).
  2. Prepare questions like "why civil services".
  3. Make a note of historical and geographical facts about your city.
  4. Short note on data like poverty, hunger, education, water scarcity etc.
  5. Burning issues like Article 370, police encounters, citizenship etc and opinion on them.
  6. The Way you think about yourself influence how you look. Better work on our thoughts.
  7. A peaceful and calm mind.

Please add your perspectives also.

1.9k views

@DKTPoints noted. These are do's and don'ts for interview. What do you think about the opinions on topics? Should they be on the line of government action?

1.9k views

@DKTThere are n number of theories floating. Some say its because of protest and internet blockade, some say about ews. One aspirant on telegram said "maine itna achhaa answers likha ,shayad rechecking ke kaaran delay ho raha hai". Simply put it, we dont know.

1.9k views

@Reality-transurferIts funny man. How lucky are we to have chairman himself giving updates.

1.9k views

@sahanrshetty1875yaar yahan kisi ko result date nai pata aur kisi ne office se pdf hi udaa diya. Its FAKE.

1.9k views

@DKTYes you are right. Some say that in interview, opinions should be on the line of goverment action. We can differ but I think it should not be 180 degree contrary to that of government.

1.9k views

@marxOnce given in essay, you'd write 1000 words essay on "How to counter fake news". Bhai, even if you believe its real, you must counter with full force that its fake and convince others that its fake because the result is not yet declared officially. How small our heart is that a fake pdf creates tremors inside us. We should be little fearful of the original one to be released on UPSC website. All the best.

1.9k views

@DKTSo, the menace of fake news exist since Mahabharata times. Good point. You must have rocked in ethics paper.

2k views

@DKTExcellent. Now I need to reduce some marks from the presumed figure in ethics paper.

@TETRACYCLINEthis is giving jitters.

2.1k views

@kochikaameOverthinking drains us. Good you are working on it. A good book might become your friend.

2.1k views

@CaesarEven the greatest creation starts from small seed. Small changes make big impact. Even I worked on weight problem last year and now I am at 70 kgs from 83 kgs. Most of us are quiet conscious about physical health but give little attention to our mental health. The coming year, apart from many small changes I wish to achieve a calm and peaceful mind. I would work on internal strength. Wish ing you loads of success.

The place where I stay, I usually see a very old, helpless and visibly homeless woman sitting on road or simply roaming here and there. This monday, I went to sabzi mandi as it happens every monday evening. Again I saw that woman selling some vegetables. She was standing in cold and literally there were no customers at her cart. I decided to go and buy something there. I purchased methi saag for Rs 20. When she was packing it, She put 3 mooli (daikon) extra with methi saag. I asked mooli price but she denied. She told me to pay Rs 20 only and have mooli for free. Again I stood at some distance and observed her for like 20 mins. She was hopelessly waiting for customers but in vain. I decided to come back to my room. I was walking with a weird silence inside me.

2.2k views

@pysh12950True. This small incident offered me few lessons:

  1. One doesn't need to be rich or educated to be generous and kind-hearted. Its just the intention that matters.
  2. There are people especially geriatric population that need the attention of government and society. Wish we all could do something for them.
  3. Self-satisfaction is a wealth which one should never afford to lose.
2.2k views

@IthriveoncocaineShe could have opted the easiest option of begging but instead she found dignity in doing something. Yes, I have determined to buy some vegetables every monday from her and thats all I could do for her. I am not much optimistic about the idea of collecting money. Thanks for extending help bhai. I would do a bit with whatever I have.

2.2k views

@IthriveoncocaineAppreciate your gesture bro.

Do inner voices just after examination matter? because in some papers you get the feeling of doing it right and in some you dont feel so optimisitic. Anyone felt the same?? Do inner feeling just after examination have any relation with marks obtained?? Somebody shed light on this.

Sociologist Behemoth thinks that social media plays a functional role in society. It minimizes crime and is a wonderful medium to vent out frustrations. In the absence of social media, aspirants could have physically wrestled with each other thus creating a situation of lawlessness. Anonymity is also an additional benefit of social media. Larger the social media footprint in future, lesser the number of crimes in street. Hail Behemoth. He is structural functionalist.

@AzadHindFauzHard to predict.May be mere condemnations. But much to India's relief, Iran has "absolutely" replaced India's name in foreign press like NYT, New yorker, guardian etc. The recent spate of incidents in India had the attention of foreign press. Peace prevails, hope so.

2.3k views

@kochikaameIt's obvious that Iran would get significant foreign coverage because it impacts America's interests directly. But this time the coverage of India was very much at the detriment of India's diplomat clout. The same point was also mentioned by our ex- foreign sec. Shiv Shankar Menon. In his words, “Global public opinion on India has shifted if you see the international press. It’s a self-inflicted goal,” he said.
Moreover we as a country are very much sensitive to our foreign coverage. Remember a mere cartoon of ISRO published by NYT in 2013 created an uproar in India. The press feeds people. A French guy opined last month that India's CAA violated the rights of trangenders. How ignorant.

2.3k views

@CaesarAgree. As long as capital and life saver innovations come from west, we would care about the opinions of them either deliberately or ignorantly.

2.3k views

@majormiketangoAs long as the leftists narrative does not alter the investment sentiments and goodwill, it may not be much problematic. India enjoys a positive perception in western hemisphere esp. among the people and lawmakers.
But in recent times, there are divisions at political level when it comes to India. Republicans and Conservatives are seen as pro-India forces and Democrats and Labours as ant-India in USA and UK respectively. The press and their political affliations are well known.

what could be the answer??

@TETRACYCLINEA junior asked me. I also said c but he said that d would be the answer.

2.4k views

@AequitasA question from a junior preparing for this year pre. A/c to him, d is the answer from official key.

2.3k views

@ZongmaDoes downsizing of bureaucracy have relation with fiscal deficit?? However a simple argument would be that downsizing reduces salaries and other expenditures.

2.3k views

@Lazydreamerd is the option in answer key.

2.3k views

@Aequitasyes the question is from prelims 2010.

2.3k views

Irrespective of age and number of attempts, we all wish to ace this examination and switch to a different phase of life. Result is around the corner. But some of us have a situation which is literally "is baar bahut kuch stake pe hai (many things are at stake) ". You want to brave the circumstances but still fear the consequences. Any of you deal with the same situation of "many things at stake"??

2.4k views

@TeddyWestsideOld Monk extremists are good extremists. Reports suggest they pose no threat to social order and world at large. Coupled with Barcelona and Liverpool extremists , IPL and Dhoni extremists et al, they validate that peace and extremism can co-exist.

2.5k views

@AzadHindFauzThey don't fit into the scheme of peaceful extremists. "Annoying extremists" would be their appropriate category.

@Hermione_Granger A similar tale. G S Ghurye was a prominent indologist often invoked by right wing nationalists. He guided many sociologists. One of his famous disciple was A R Desai, a Marxist often invoked by left wings. A true guru/guide often encourages you to choose your own path and develop your own understanding of anything and everything.
The Hindu is a quality English newspaper with a south Indian accent. It just diversifies your opinions. Like everybody else here, I am an avid reader of the Hindu for years but got never tilted towards left. Just a personal opinion.
