How to find out the number of past attempts at CSE?

Hello All,

I am a General Category candidate nearing 30.

I applied for the CSE exam back in 2014 & 2015 and know for certain that I sat for the exam atleast once.

I quit my preparation in 2015 & went into corporate. I feel ready mentally for the career change and have been studying for the 2023 exam.

I changed my previous email id & so lost out on the 2014 & 2015 registration details and not sure of my previous attempts - did I appear both times or only once?

In my 2023 application, I need to indicate how many previous attempts I have made. Should I put it as 1 previous attempt or 2 previous attempts? I am eligible for 6 attempts in total.

I filed RTI and called up the UPSC helpline number but they said they do not have info regarding previous attempts.

Has someone faced this issue before? How did they solve it? Any guidance would be deeply appreciated.

P.S. If the number of previous attempt given in DAF is found to be incorrect post interview stage during document verification, can it be rectified then? Any relevant insight into this would be helpful.

Thanks,

Rajesh

UPSC maintains a foolproof database of previous attempts of all candidates. There are instances of candidates having been barred from UPSC exams for 10 years for mentioning less no than actual no of attempts. If you are not sure, just mention two. UPSC doesnt respond to such queries as it imposes extra burden on them.

Take what@abc123 said very seriously. Especially since you are 30, just mention 2. But you will have to give roll numbers for those attempts or write "0" in DAF 1 after prelims, so don't stress.

And then 3 ways forward:

1. The result for CSE 2022 Mains will come out in May, right before prelims and a marks window will open. Go check your result for prelims for those two years in that hyperlink. If you were absent, it would not show any record; if you went to even one paper, it would mention the marks and AB in the other one. I have conclusive proof of this happening since I did the same thing. Here's the link I found, see if it has relevant year and exam https://upsconline.nic.in/marksheet/exam/marksheet_system/archives.php

2. File an RTI. I filed an RTI online and received a letter mentioning my previous roll numbers and attempts. Make sure you put in all possible ID information for them, your name, Parents info, PAN, Passport, or whatever you may have used as ID card. Worked for me.

3. Check your Google timeline history in google maps, photos history in Google photos/ backup app for the prelims date that year. The good people at google never forget if you had the right settings.

Goodluck!

@LuckyKatt Thank you for the detailed info.

Will file for RTI again, per your suggestion.

I checked the link and it seems they currently display results from 2018 onwards.

Mine was 2014 & 2015 but will anyway check the link again in May 2023 to see if there is any change there.

You mentioned, ''But you will have to give roll numbers for those attempts or write "0" in DAF 1 after prelims, so don't stress''. So, bottomline being it is more or less fine to put in ''0'' in DAF1 in case I don't find out my roll number and attempts through RTI?

Thank you once again for your valuable inputs. :-)

Yes, correct. The DAF 1 itself says put "0" if you don't remember roll number, if that was your concern. Attaching a screenshot of the form for your review.

I am glad you found it useful. Cheers!
