Forum MGP for beginners preparation of GS 1-4

I will be starting my GS prep. Will joining forum mgp and preparing and writing answer as per the test schedule be a good approach for GS 1-4 prep.

Should I go through the syllabus on my own and write test only after having good command on the syllabus. The concern with this approach I'm not sure what to refer for most points of the syllabus apart from the static one common to prelims and world history.
