@Lawstice @LetsGetThisBread  Hey.. saw you ppl in 2022 thread and sfg. I don't know much about you.. but this was my third attempt.. and I couldn't clear prelims again... I also gave 5 months to pre, followed sfg-1, did pyq, mocks and everything.. was very confident but couldn't clear again.. I am currently very very confused.. should I go full throttle one more time or should think about a job or something along with upsc this time.
I just want to know in what direction are people like you thinking and what's your course of action.. so that I can gain some new perspective.

Personally i advocate a backup post 3 attempts. But after having got into one course i can tell you this much choose a backup that gives you time to study consistently as well. I had to skip 2022 primarily because of lack of time. Also if you haven’t cleared prelims despite having done everything I would personally advise you to not worry too much about it. Its just a matter of time before everything clicks into place. Just try to think about where you could have possibly gone wrong and then proceed :)

Always felt the lack of peer group in my 2021 attempt, moved to Delhi for 2022. Couldn't find any peer group or something, posted targets on thread for a while & then gave up. Want to make 2023 last, ready to give whatever it takes. Let's go full throttle.

Also,

Also am in the hub, would love to connect n discuss daily dukhs with you'll.  Let's do it!

2023 will most probably be my last attempt as well so hoping to really make it count

An acceptance post.

I have spent the last few days being either hurt or angry. It was my second prelims failure, and one that I wasn't ready for. I am caught in the vicious cycle of blames, of how it was my circumstances that failed me. I know it is no use, and hence I write this post to accept, and let go.
The person I have been blaming the most is my father. He would not allow me to go to a library when I found it impossible studying at home. For no reason at all. I have been obedient so far, never did anything 'immoral' in the eyes of the society. And yet this. Plus, he would force me to get into a job, because it is so hard to get, and so in the 7 months that I had for this attempt, I prepared for three different exams.
That's what is hurting me, and making me angry. But this is not the complete picture. I could have gone to the library had I been a little more obstinate. I could have insisted him for a fully focused attempt all the same.
I know this post is rather negative, but I am writing it as a reminder of how I can indeed control my circumstances if I want to. I don't want to fall in this trap of cribbing ever again.
I accept my faults, and I choose to move on.

Hey this might be a good time to chat with your father about what you really need to clear the exam which is dedicated prep time. He might be the most amenable to listening at this time that this exam needs a certain dedicated time and focus.

Hey everyone.

After attending SFG 1 and 2, it was yesterday that I learnt how to talk to people on thread. (facepalm)

I am pretty introvert, so never befriended anyone during foundation course, but it's high time I come out of my shell. Could you please help me with how peer groups are formed? I have no wild knowledge about group studies. After getting ditched by prelims this year, I am planning to take Sociology as optional. It would be kind of you if you help me keep my baby steps. Also, one last query, how are peer groups managed when some people are not based in Delhi? I'm currently in ORN but planning to go back home for solace and good food. I can't without it.

Forum threads were a saviour. I found really good friends on this platform. Daily thread was honestly popping in 2021 with everyone sharing their routines, sukh-dukh, tiny moments of joy, learnings and advice, material, food pics et al. So even though I hadn’t met anyone personally there was always a place I knew that I could pour out my worries without any hesitation :)

Though I could not clear the prelims this year, being a silent member of this community helped a lot. A special thanks to@LetsGetThisBread. Your posts on the one thing you learnt from your prelims failure thread was so very helpful. ( I'm not able to turn these bold letters off).

Anyway, though it was a little heartbreaking to see the result after all my efforts, I want to give my 100% to 2023. Hoping all you lovely people can guide me with your experience as always.

PS- I want to give a special thanks to this community as a whole. Though I could not clear and have never been an active member, this site has been so good for my mental health, knowing that you're not alone in feeling helpess/hopeless/lazy or any of the countless other feelings and things that you go through on this journey and as a part of the journey of life as well.

So, here's to 2023. Hoping to give it all that I have

Heheh not being able to turn off the bold letters after tagging a person is so relatable 😐

Bhai yahi par mai ek unsolicited advice dena chahunga jo mujhe bhi mili thi but maine maani nahi and abb mai heavily regret kar raha hu. Marzi ho toh consider karna ya fir you can chuck it off altogether.

If you are considering doing masters, I would suggest ki open se karo rather than kisi regular college/university se. Because regular course ke khoob chochle hote hai for eg, attendance, internals, assignments and what not. Inn sab mei kaafi time chala jaata hai and CSE ki tyaari ka satyanaash ho jaata hai. Also, naye naye log bhi contact mei aate hai toh usse bhi kahi na kahi asar padta hai.

Mai bhi 2020 mei join kara tha kisi ek central university ka regular masters course and meri tyaari has gone for a toss tbh. Prior to 2020, meri preparation rock solid chal rahi thi but masters ki vajah se sab gadbad hogaya.

Ek example deta hu apne case ka. Mere course ka last sem ka exam iss saal ke mid May se leke first week of June tak thay and side by side June 5 ka prelims bhi tha. I was planning to skip this year’s attempt but mujh par pressure bana ki iss saal ka attempt dena hai kisi bhi haal mei, so I decided ki college ka last sem drop karunga. Abb yeh realisation aayi drop karne ki, prelims se 30 dinn pehle, so mere paas Pre ki tyaari karne ka limited time tha. Iss limited time mei mai GS  paper 1 ka max tyaari kar paaya but csat ko dhyaan nahi de paaya, and vohi hua jiska darr lag raha tha, 5 June ko GS1 ka sahi gaya but csat mei tabiyat vala fuck-up ho gaya.  Abb na hee mains likh paa raha and naa hee degree hath mei aa rahi iss saal. :/

So inn baato ko consider karna decision lete huye. I’m saying this because I’m assuming you are trying to take admission in some regular course as you mentioned CUET.

Agar CSE ki tyaari aur regular course ke chochle ek sath manage kar paao toh boht hee Badia but aisa rarely hota hai. Mera course kuch aisa hai ki meri class ke 50 baccho mei se 45 bacche consider/want to give CSE but course hee itna hectic hogaya ki unn 45 mei se mujhe mila ke 1-2 aur hee hai jo college mei hone ke sath sath attempt bhi diye hai CSE ka, baaki 42-43 logo ne seedha kaha ki course complete hone ke baad hee attempt dengay kyuki time hee nahi milta tyaari karne ka sahi se, so I hope issey tum ek effective decision le paao. :)

Sadly I agree :(

So managed to only do some current affairs backlog and mostly college work. I realised i was floundering becuase I hadn’t really planned out the month ahead let alone the rest of the year. So took some time out to plan the next few months ahead so that i have less decision fatigue after coming back from college. Hopefully today has been the last of the unplanned study days.

Tomorrow onwards I’m going to get back to clocking my hours on YPT as well. It’s obviously not going to be anywhere near my usual hours before i started college. I guess this is fixed notion is something i might need to get over… this idea that unless i clock my hours from the beginning of the day and get at least 8 hours in its not been a productive study day. Now that my available hours are different ill just have to learn new ways of defining what a productive day looks like for me. I’ll probably have to plan my day the night before instead of having the luxury post waking up. Just because plans are changing don’t mean they are any less better… at least I wont know until I try.

Bread out!

Had a really good and long study day after the longest time. Finally clocked a good number of hours on YPT. Finished 15 days worth of April C/A backlog, Dipin sir’s class, as well as started optional. It’s been a good day. Bread goes to bed happy :D

Good morning y’all! Targets for 2.7.22 are:

Dipin sir- 2

Gov- RTI, CC, Media, nutrition, poverty

PSIR- Plato, Aristotle

April C/A- 23- 30

Daily C/A

Yesterday was a good day, slow but completely utilised. Managed to do a current affairs class, backlog as well as note making. Hoping that today also goes good, especially post a good breakfast of kappa and chammandi. Do have to go furniture shopping sometime during the day but let’s see how many of the targets I can race against time to finish. Let’s get this bread, and perhaps a centre table?

Quite a fail day yesterday. Sat for a little while in the morning and afternoon but had to go out post lunch. Who knew furniture shopping took so long. Hoping that the inertia doesn’t carry over to today as well. Targets for 3.7.22 are:

 Dipin sir- 2

Gov- RTI, Media, nutrition, poverty

PSIR- Plato, Aristotle

April C/A- 23- 30

Daily C/A

college work- SG, ppt, video

Man I really hope I get this bread today 😅

Is there any secret/esoteric way to get out of a rut extending more than a month? or maybe we can say years, tbvh.

All these start small, create a schedule, focus on building habits, know your why, etc seems good in theory or while giving gyaan to others. I know many people do these things and they get the results. but for me executing these has become an unattainable task, the vicious loop of procrastination and instant gratification just don't seem to end. and it been over years since i've had any decent day. I know in the end i'd have to figure things out on my own and ranting won't take me anywhere.

Anyway, thanks for reading my rant. Suggestions are welcome, though I know they help much, unless I help myself.

Hi, i can totally feel you because my rut extended for 2 years. It was difficult to get myself out of it but it is doable. Like you said start small, and create a schedule is literally the way forward.

I realised very early on that physical planners don't do me any good because i cant be bothered to beautify my pages and my handwriting isn’t the most journal friendly. So i have a notebook opened on GoodNotes where i type out my daily schedule. This has been there with me for the past two years. Also knowing the macro targets are really helpful as well, what i intend to achieve in one month, the next 6 months etc along with a daily schedule.

Also helps if you figure out why it’s too difficult to stick to a schedule. Is it too much workload? Reduce the number of targets you set for yourself. Is your schedule too tightly packed without any breathing space, which makes you more likely to procrastinate? Schedule a block of time where you intend to do nothing except what you want to do? YouTube distracting you? Put a screen time. The point is, find a workaround for your problems.

There was also a book i read titled “Finish What You Started” (ironically which i never finished reading) but one helpful thing it said is to set a bare minimum workload. So find 3 things that you must absolutely do, even if you hate and ensure you do at least that. Its not the same as a fully productive day, but its still better than wasting your day entirely.

Lastly, there’s nothing like a good old shame spiral to kick your butt into action. I hated the fact that my targets were unachieved and that pushed me to try and finish at least one thing the next day. I kept doing that till the time i got the hang of it. It was a slow and painful process ngl, but entirely doable.

Thank you! I’m a normal human like all others, maybe even lazier, so if I can do it then so can you. Also thanks about the username. I figured there’s no way anyone is going to be offended by bread 😅

i am preapring from home

and i have a broad plan of completing syllabus, but

i cant figure out how to PLAN revision

i dont have any peers, no coaching

joined forum pre test series but its schedule doesnt align with the broad plan so i havent given any tests yet

this is my first attempt

and i am mainly concern about revision strategy

please give advice

thankyou

You could start by broadly dividing the syllabus over the remaining months of the year and trying to revise in large blocks. Alternatively, you could also peg your revision schedule to a test series schedule. Usually they happen once a week so you can keep that much portion to be revised in that week. This might be a systematic method of completing revisions if you have no clue about how much time to allocate to finishing off your syllabus.

It is said to make your revision schedule daily , weekly and monthly for longer retention.

Personally i think its very hard to do especially when you have a large chunk of syllabus hanging over your head.

I have in my previous attempts revised on an circular basis , i.e. when all subjects have been read, come back to subject 1 .

Not recommended.

Now, I am trying to allocate 1 day a week for revision.

I tend to find it easier to divide the syllabus myself because I revise in blocks that make sense to me. I suggested revising along with test series ka schedule because when you’re doing it the first time around (since they mentioned it’s their first attempt) it’s difficult to divide the entire syllabus efficiently. That said, one must do what makes the most sense to them.

could you pls explain how you divide the syllabus and revise block-wise?

I struggle with a committed revision schedule and in the past have done the "circular method", which someone mentioned above

Fair word of warning this might not be the best way to revise if you haven’t quite built some comfort with the syllabus yet so i would recommend this only as a revision after you’ve done one round of reading and note-making for things. So the blocks are usually chapters that go together. For example it makes sense to read FD, FR and DPSPs together, or the 73rd+ 74th+ Scheduled areas and UTs together. Similarly i created blocks for all subjects. Basically information that was easier to be assimilated if you grouped it together.

Its also easier to identify chapters and areas that you struggle with much easer this way, because you pick up a block and see what you know and what you aren’t comfortable with in that particular block. I used to make a mental note of what i found difficulty and made sure to start my block revision with a quick recap of that chapter before moving on to other chapters in that block.

I wouldn’t advise the circular revision method for the first 2 revisions because you end up taking so much time with those revisions that by the time you come back around to the subject again, its like starting fresh. The circular method is great if your revision cycles are short i.e nearer the exam when you can get through masses of information within 2-3 days.

I don't wake that late(though 1-1.5 hours later than I want). But by the time I finish my first task, I often realise ki college hours are approaching. I am as slow as tortoise these days and tbh I am not into any short term dopamine trips of late. Kal I will have study time till 5 pm. Dekhte hai. I hoped to finish Economy portion by this Sunday and also finish relevant MGP tests, but its not happening now anytime before Wednesday I guess.

Not listing any targets for tomorrow, but the task is to finish Topics 9(Infra) and Topic 10(investment Models) asap in a day or two.

Shubh Ratri!

watching some toppers talks, it seems as if they knew everything all along, you see the clarity, the confidence, the pride, feels like they had it sorted all along, you see no flaws, you dont see the downs, neither do they emphasize much on it

and then, there you come back to your reality and its okay, until those bad bad days hit, and were just down bad, confused, and it seems why is it so hard for us

this is what i go through sometimes, but this platform is really helpful in that aspect, you see your peers, actual journey, the graph with ups and downs, mistakes, solutions, sometimes you relate, you can put your heart out,

this is

a good place to be

Can agree so much on this. But one thing I’ve learnt over the years is that every plan becomes a strategy only after it is proven to work. So give your plan time too, it’s just a strategy in the making. :)

Wrote 1st MGP 2023 TEST..half 10 question one..attempted 6-7 in 1.5 hour...in the paper nothing was coming in my mind..just threw away the paper n went...is it normal?people improve from this point in next year?

Shifted to Delhi on 1st with so many stakes.. exhausted 2 attempts.

Feeling like everything is dark..

Been there done that. But everyone starts slow and small. The first test you write is bound to be bad and an uncomfortable experience because it’s something different to what you’ve done so far. Anything that pushes us out of our comfort zone will make us feel you uncomfortable. But trust me there’s no way you’re going to grow by staying in your comfort zones. Likhte raho, revise karte raho. Don’t compete with others just with yourself. Try and see if you can improve in the next test viz a vid this one that you gave.

I haven’t joined a TS this year because I know evaluation is bad. I’ll probably join SR again next year because of TINA factor

Most days are energyless for me. No motivation to do more than what I am doing right now, a simple govt. job.

I lost one of my parent last year and things haven't been on track from then on. Missed 2021 preliminary by 0.66 (ahh!). I feel I am unable to give time to my people but I guess it's because I have nothing interesting to tell them or talk about.

I joined a group C govt. job because of father's worries about my future aur yahan bhi man nahi lag raha. I have always believed that the thing which you do for most part of the day is where you succeed.

8 hours job + 8 hours sleep + 1hour (before + after job) + 2 hours daily chores +  phone calls eat most part of my day. I am left with 2-3 hours. I have a 6 day central govt. job.

I don't know if it is lack of motivation or I seriously don't have time for UPSC anymore.

But everytime I say I don't have time for UPSC it feels like a mini breakup. I don't know if I am lost or it's a phase or I'm down with some kind of depression (sorry if I used that word casually). One thing for sure is I am unable to take UPSC as an exam now. I feel bad and sad.

Any worldly or unworldly gyaan is invited.

First of all, I would like to remind you that aap bhi insaan ho so apne aap ko itna harshly judge mat kijiye. You have gone through extremely difficult times recently so it’s ok to feel down in the dumps. I cant even begin to imagine what losing a parent might feel like.

Worldly gyaan: if you still feel like doing UPSC, understand that your study day will be much smaller than the average aspirant’s. So you’ll have to make consistency your strength. Plan those 2-3 hours well and try and do as much as possible. Avoid phone calls as much as possible if they’re unnecessary (itna toh tyaag diye ho life m already, yeh bhi kar paoge). Weekend ka bharpoor istemal kijiye padhai m.

Otherwordly gyaan: You know your situation better than anyone else. So it would be easy for me or for anyone else on this platform to tell you what to do and for you to go “WTF yeh toh bekaar h” (I would do that tbh). If you’re feeling this way about UPSC take a break from one cycle, refresh yourself and then come back, if age is not a factor. And I don’t know if you’ve managed to cope with losing your parent so early but agar woh tough lag raha h toh I would advise going for a few sessions of therapy or at least finding a support group to talk about these issues.

Few learnings/rants/observations from last 25 days-

- The first thought which comes to a Delhite's mind (especially the auto walas/coolie) isn't "Should I scam this guy?",  but it is "How much should I scam this guy?" and the answer is "as much as possible"

- I've learnt how to stare at your ceiling fan for 12 hours and sleep for the same amount. Perfectly balanced as all things should be.

- We uselessly put a lot of detergent just bcos we can, but we don't need to. Have some pity on your beautiful clothes.

- People who do not wear white sneakers at least once a week come under the inspection of Intelligence agencies.

- Monologues are always better than dialogues, so I avoid making friends.

- If it wasn't for Lutyens Delhi and the metro, Delhi doesn't deserve to be the capital of India. But sigh, TINA.

- The Internet is the most wonderful human invention only after the photocopy machines, so Thou shall collect as much material as possible.

- Delhi is in a perpetual state of flood. Flood of (useless) summaries, compilations, notes, answer writing book by yet another topper who spends her 'precious' time marketing it and wooing aspirants. I have easily avoided all of them though because I simply do not touch any books.

- Rewatched 'Andhadhun'. Watched 'RK/RKAY'. Both are very well written, someday I hope to write something 1% as good as these.

- Black coffee is an acquired taste.

- I can now Iron my Clothes, without iron.

- As a kid, I had the main character vibes but I've realised I'm not the main character, I'm not even the side character, forget this, I was removed from the first batch of auditions, bleh.

- I despise the tag of "UPSC aspirant"(and many(all) other tags and things). I'll get rid of it asap, my eventual fate awaits me.

Do not waste your time by reading/replying to my comments because "Time is extremely valuable"
I waste my time writing these because "Time is extremely valuable and I prefer to waste it"

So, I came back to room at 8 pm and had my cheat meal. PSIR wasn't done, but Topic 9 is done sans Energy part. Also, added Logistics part as another head in Topic 9 to add more breadth to this particular topic.

Kal ka subah, I'll upload. Though there are few days left before I go into a month long oblivion (semester exams in August), yet I will be uploading my day's schedule in mornings. This will help me in sticking to 6:30 am library deadlines.

Good last too days, long time after i completed the targets along with it

@LetsGetThisBread @mightyraju Isn't Delhi governance model good . I was sold on it , with the Mohalla clinics and all..

It works ok for the most part.  It obviously some part is whitewashed optics as well

Today's introspection- Had I not been engrossed with JioFiber guys for 3-4 hours for router pickup,I would have certainly done PSIR tasks.Yet I made full use of the remaining time. Also, did read Energy part but didn't add them in Economics part. This is to avoid duplication kyunki that part overlaps with Topic 11(Economic geo.) of GS1.Toh udhar consolidate karunga.

Back here after 3-4 days. And the story remains the same.

The guilt at 2 AM fires up the hope for a beautiful tomorrow. All of my plans for the future involve me waking up tomorrow with a sudden sense of discipline and adherence to routine that i have simply never displayed in my 20 years of life.

All the enthusiasm fizzles out when I hit the snooze button in the morning and the next day I'm back where I was.

Days, months, and years go by, just merely existing on autopilot. I am the worst version of myself living the worst version of my life. Sorry if these rants ruined your mood/this thread or anything else, but worry not, this shall be my last pitiful rant here.

Will be back on 1 August (maybe, maybe not)

Dear nice peeps of forum, help needed. I've been trying to do current affairs but its too overwhelming for me. I read newspaper daily and jot down what seems important. In ONE notebook, all subject at one place, I'm one of those people who prefer notebooks to online media for CA hence the problem in editing data. But when the time to do monthly magazine comes it becomes impossible to manage, as there is repetition. What should I do, seperate notebooks for seperate subject? Stop jotting down daily? Do only monthly magazine? Which monthly magazine? there is like an armada of them out there. I mean all and every opinion is welcomed. It's just too confusing. Thankyou In advance

I guess the number of grammatical and auto correct mistakes in the deleted text should tell you how much i type/text.

A4 sheets is the way to go if you prefer offline notes. Maintain a separate folder for each subject and staple them month wise to keep them organised. If you’re doing daily note making you’ll find you have more relevant content compared to monthlies. When you read your monthly add and fill in the blanks where necessary. Try not to take more than 1-2 hours daily for this endeavour or else you’ll end up wasting time. There are even daily compilations if you wish not to go through a monthly magazine.

So, have been away from the forum for , I had my State PSC prelims. Am travelling back again now. Hopefully will study for 2-3 more days before college exams make me go into oblivion!

@LetsGetThisBread Lol. UPSC fables and its inevitable hairline struggles. Vaise maida wala bread khaoge toh yeh usske consequences hain!

@Pepethefrog Get a punching bag, buddy. Fod daalo ussko!

@Pepethefrog On that 14 yo boy- Kya maalom ki that not so fortunate boy may have been fascinated by your royalty😂! Vaise sabse zyaada dikkat and sharam tab aati jab we boys have to get our rooms cleaned. It gets messier to show the dirty condition of our rooms to househelps!

Also, some naive opinion on CA conundrum-

I make Pen Paper wale hi(after having burnt my fingers experimenting with making Daily CA notes digitally). What I feel is that one should make some base notes on topic and then appendix relevent CA under those topics.

Exhibit:Like there was Topic Sedition in Vision's monthly of May. If I would have added it, I would have added it after my base notes of Topic 1 of GS2. To be specific, somehere close to my Fundamental Rights notes!

Baaki apna apna comfort level.

This one is for those who are in college (ideally, final year). I'm periodically hit by a wave of panic and anxiety regarding how I'm going to manage both college and cse prep in the months that lie ahead. I'm occupied in sem exams since mid July till mid Aug. I'm not doing any cse prep since July. Funnily enough, not being able to focus on college exams bc of this anxiety so ruining both. Any helpful advice is welcome (brownie points if you're in the same boat).

In college, feel your struggles. Bass itna bol sakte h ki back na aaye itni mehnat kar lo sirf college m. Mark sheet se kisi ko farq nhi padta at the end of the day. August ke baad se CSE ko hi priority rakho apna.

Hi guys

Has anyone tried the OnlyIAS Prahaar material for mains? I was intially using Vision VAM but found it to have lesser dimensions/keywords etc and at times going too deep on a specific point. Or can you suggest some other alternatives?

Thanks!

Prahar is good if you have some basic knowledge of topics. I made my notes from them as well as extensive googling. You can’t stick to any one source while making notes, find multiple enough to fill in all possible dimensions of a topic (PYQs are a good guide on what all dimensions you would require to cover). Once notemaking is done, that should be your only source.

Today my 6 year old headphone lost a limb and that prompted me to introspect about my own tortuous journey into the abyss of cse. Am i also not being worn down by circumstances, chewed by the sharp teeth of time, consumed by profound grief and guilt,  undermined by my sheer lack of discipline. My hairs are graying , my health is deteriorating , my parents are growing old, my friendships have passed into the black hole of oblivion. What am I doing with my life.

A mocking voice came wafting from next room : making a mountain out of a molehill.

"It's just a headphone silly",shouted my sister over her lungs in her quirky voice.

" Would it have killed you to feign some sympathy", said I.

" I don't have any sympathy for petty bourgoise who plunge into existential crisis for a stupid overpriced product of a capitalist system that exploits the labour of the third world poor workers ,and that makes a lot of noise about sustainability and ESG corporate pradigm to whitewash its products; and then sell these products to the same gullible bourgeoisie who lap it up, thanks to the blietzkrieg of modern marketing techniques that have succeeded in transforming the multidimensional man into a unidimensional consuming man who defines his identity in terms of what he owns, and of which brand", came the retort.

Needless to say my mood was runined and i knew exactly the thing that could cheer me up. So , i went out to have a pizza at bominos. After that i went to the shopping mall to buy some expensive branded tshirts (made in Bangladesh in a sweatshop) , and some Jodhpurs at a steep discount( they said it's limited time deal so my fomo kicked up and i forgot that they have been offering the same discount since forever. Great strategy, mark your product at 7k give 3 k discount and it's still expensive af) . nevertheless, After suffusing myself with capitalistic gratification , my senses were pleasantly calmed. Took an uber back home and gladly reasured my self with ' Isn't life amazing'.

Oh! About those headphones. The company just released a new improved version which will make me feel as if the celestial nymphs themselves are  doing a live concent in front of my eyes. This made me wet at my mouth, that is to say i was salivating like Tommy , my neighbour's dog. Cant wait to get my hands on them, that is to say the headphones , not the dog. I hate dogs. They remind of my own pavlovian conditioning.

Tsk tsk we are all one dimensional men living multidimensional hypocrisies…

Guys, I need some help. How do you peeps mug up things and revise?

I am not able to do it efficiently and it is costing me heavily in mains.

In my last two mains, I have deduced that mains cannot be cleared without effective mugging up. I am not able to do that properly and it is making me irritated.

Any suggestion how to go about it?

Make your notes in such a way that it helps with revision. Meaning they should be concise, contain keywords, examples and data.

One of my biggest mental constraints was reading pages and pages of notes so I ensured to compress my notes in such a manner they fitted in one page entirely. They were untidy but to my mind it felt like “sirf ek page hi toh h”. Then revise it as many number of times as possible.

Repeated iterations are necessary along with that the good old “likh ke yaad karna” really works.

Keep brainstorming answer frameworks on a daily basis. I would take an hour daily just to  pick up the topics I had revised that day and quickly run through the points in my head with a scrap piece of paper. You don’t have to even write the full keyword just the beginning few letters along with rough diagrams  and structures.

Mains ke time pe agar anti-environment banna hain… itna paper barbaad karna hota hain. 😅

Make your "Dirty notes", by that I mean short notes/ one page notes or anything under the sun , that includes the things that you have difficulty in remembering or things that you want to be on ur tips.

A week before the exam, my productivity was super low, but i keeps revising and recalling all the facts, quotes, diagrams etc. over and over again, so I found it relatively easy to make them a part of my answers as well.

Okay. Take for example I have a 15 page note of an optional topic. How do I go about compressing it? Like there can be two approaches I can think of.

1) dividing the topic into various headings and remembering the headings.

2) writing all the difficult to memories things instead of a micro summary of the topic.

How should I do it. And, are there any alternatives?

Give your input too@LetsGetThisBread . How to go about it?

For optional say you have to remember Plato, I take one page and make a cloud diagram sort of thing where one cloud represents the theory of idea and from and write all the related keywords about it. That way you’re not writing the entire thing against, just the keywords which makes it easier to facilitate recall as well.

As for GS, suppose you pick a topic of nutrition- your one page should contain, definition, data, keywords related to the problem, schemes and few keywords for that scheme, solutions and way forward, as well as a diagram.

Since there are a number of PSIR students here on this thread, I had this problem which I want to resolve quickly and move on.

I joined PSIR tests with some value addition in the form of PYQs at a coaching.

In their schedule, they mentioned they would start with WPT and the usual order of things.

Today, out of the blue, they took up IR theories from Paper 2.

They plan to spend one week on PYQs discussion, then the next on week on solving tests.

This is my first time, going though PSIR in detail. I am relatively still new to the ways of the subject.

My question is should I go with the flow of the coaching, i.e. start with IR, or should I start with WPT of Paper 1?(as the thinkers form the base of the subject).

Start with WPT if you’re new to the subject. It really is the heart and soul of PSIR. IR is fun and you will be able to understand it on its own but it’s seems a lot more integrated when you read it after WPT and comparative

@Rashmirathi Not alone, this thread has been a window to the world I had been isolating myself from, I spent last one year scared and worried it wasn't Until Feb that I actually started studying. The only goal this year is to keep moving even if it is  a little everyday.
It is reassuring and motivating that everyone's going through the same things , and trying everyday to get better.

Keep going as said Discipline is >>>>Motivation ,as it itself acts as motivation

I must not fear.

Fear is the mind killer .

Fear is the little death  that brings

    total obliteration .

I will face my fear .

I will permit it to pass over and

through me .

And when it has gone past I will turn

the inner eye to see its path .

When the fear has gone there will be

nothing .

Only I will remain

Just felt worth sharing

Lovely lines

Hello folks. My sem exams ended on 8th Aug. I'm home after a long time for a break. Lawschool is intense. First few days were okay, but now chilling out feels like a sin. Since almost a month, no cse prep has been done due to exams. Shall get back to it from 16th Aug, when I go back. It feels kind of scary. Time is flying by. Faster than i imagined. Although I've been 65-70% consistent for all the time I've put in the prep, it still feels like i know very less. Personal issues, loneliness, final year woes, sab ek saath ho raha. This space is comforting at times, everyone's in the same sea if not  the same boat, facing different kinds of hell. Any seasoned players, koi advice ho first timer ke liye toh bata do pls. Would really help calm my nerves.

It’s one foot in front of the of the other… and eventually you’ll reach your destination without even realising it

Lately, i've been experiencing the silly ways that cse (and its failures) change you.
I recently joined instagram, after a 3 years-long break. And began to feel a parental pity for how my old classmates are spending (read squandering) their lives. I am 22 this year, so are my friends. 😐.

I see my friends becoming parents on Instagram and it’s just pity that I feel. 😶

(Disclaimer: I love babies but at some point everyone hates their kid)

I have been a silent spectator of forum since March. Gave prelims and probably missed due to CSAT.
Past couple of weeks had been hectic at work. I would be posting to maintain accountability.

Goals for this week:

Welcome friend, the more the merrier! Hope you’ll like this thread and stick around :)

Hi guys, prep wise things are going okay. Not great, not too bad either. Writing tests and doing newspaper regularly, although syllabus completion is not upto satisfaction.

Need some advice on non-academic problems. The thing is I have two crippling addictions that are affecting my efficiency a lot.

One is my smartphone,(YouTube and reddit) I know that I have to stop it and reduce it. There are a few days when I have it under control and then it goes haywire again. I tried reducing the time, locking my phone etc but doesn't work in the long run. I somehow slip off. When this smartphone addiction is at it's peak my sleep cycle gets disrupted and preparation also gets affected due to erratic timings.

And the other is addiction for sweets and chocolates. Late night snacking is one problem. Also during the day I have my fill and sometimes doze off, again wasting my time. My parents also don't seem to bother with my unhealthy eating habits.

Both the problems are quite long term and started primarily in college as a sort of escape from stress. Haven't been able to shake it off even after 1.5 years of graduating.

Can you guys suggest some ways to overcome this? I am putting around 4-5 hours of productive study every day but I want to get around 7-8 benchmark. Please help a fellow UPSC marathon runner out.

Are you exercising and or staying active besides prep?

3.1k views
@LetsGetThisBread It's on and off exercising these days. I walk daily for half  an hour though.

Staying active can really help as a good way to beat stress. I also had a crippling YouTube addiction and ironically i came across a productivity video on YouTube itself (the algorithm realised i had a problem 😐). Essentially, it called for a dopamine detox, which is basically keep your phones and other devices away for 3 days. So no texting, no social media, no TV, no movies, basically anything that would lead to a dopamine spike, and as for hobbies you’re only allowed to read books, go for a walk, talk to people, sing etc. I have to say it really worked for me because after those 3 days I didn’t feel the need to fall back into my YouTube pattern again.

But as a self discipline thing just so that after your detox, you don’t flood your system again with dopamine, I also keep a 7 video limit on a daily basis. I select the things i want to watch in the beginning the day. And keep them in my watch later. I’m only allowed to watch those and nothing else. If something else tempts me I keep it for the next day instead.

As far as snacking goes, and late night snacking goes, i would suggest keeping a cutoff time by which you have to stop snacking. For me that tends to be 7:30. No food besides water beyond that time. More often than not, its not hunger but boredom that makes us want to snack at odd hours. I realised tis one of those things where you literally have to remind your brain that its no longer stuck in the “cave man times” when food was scarce and every call for hunger had to be answered immediately. So i usually do two things: 1. ask myself to wait for haf an hour and d something else instead. That usually takes care of it. 2. I ask myself if this is hunger that can be satiated with a healthy snack like a fruit or a glass of milk instead. Usually, if you say no, it goes to show that you’re not actually hungry but just craving salt and sugar.

Also a must have is to keep healthy snack options at home. Sprouts, fruit, salads, milk. And actively choose those instead of unhealthy snacks first. A little indulgence is okay but it shouldn’t become the only thing you choose regularly.

I not a health and fitness expert, but just someone who is trying to figure out ways to be healthy around this prep.

This reminds me of a video that helped me reduce my time spent on youtube. Ironically, on youtube itself😂

I had developed a ytshorts not addiction exactly but something like that.

I realized that generally, it is  because I'm looking for something like this random movie I watched once that made me feel good and because I have no subscriptions , no tv , youtube is the only source and every time I scroll it is the anticiptation that next thing on screen would make me feel better and then I will put the phone down. But, all I get in return is insanity and a shortened attention span.

+ putting limit on the number of videos to watch is a brilliant idea. It will also invoke some introspection as to why I want to  watch this video.

So relatable. It is exactly what you said, the “next thing will be better” syndrome

Hi all!

I'm back after a hectic day(yesterday) and a mindful break(today). Posting targets here keeps me in check, so I wouldn't have been able to stay away for too long anyway.

Today's target is to get everything in order and start September on a good note 🌼

Good Luck to me and all of you 🌞🌞

Targets: 01/09/22

1. Economy 4A3 +4A4

2. Zoology - Biostats. - 3hrs

3. TIE+Notes

Revision - 4A1+ 4A2+1A1

Targets repeat for 02/09/22

Did Some revision + all the newspaper backlogs

1. Newspaper Done

2. Revision - Done

Rest: Not done

Amidst all of this chaos that prep creates, I feel like I'm losing myself and I do not wish to be so lost that I cannot recognize myself. How do I stay afloat? By doing things I love? How do I do the things I love? Is there any time to do that , 'cause I feel like it is always running out?

This should have been somewhere in my diary, not on this thread. But, here it is; This thread feels like home on days I do not feel at home with myself. Afterall, it is here that I see an account of everything that I have done and not done. I am afriad, I am getting too attached :P

I am always short of words when I wish to communicate my feelings. So, I compensate with silent hugs to everyone at home and write what helps me clear my head. Probably, this is one of the things I love, and this where I begin, and my worries end - My words will steady me , when everything else fails...

"Our worst foes are not belligerent circumstances, but wavering spirits.”

                                              ~Helen Keller

It’s one of those which I have to constantly remind myself not to feel guilty about as well. We have valorised hustle culture to the extent where being productive 24x7 seems to be the only way one can prove to the world ki hum paida hoke galti nhi kiye. I gave into this pressure in my 2nd attempt and crashed and burnt. It felt like itna kuch kiya ki kuch bhi theek se nhi kiya. For the last 2 attempts I have tried my best to not feel guilty about needing breaks or taking them when I felt like it. There’s no easy way around it but i told my brain that a certain number of breaks keep me far more productive than when I study with no breaks. These sort of strict deadlines and conditionalities I’ve realised are the essence of adulthood. Ultimately parenting yourself responsibly and ensuring that the child inside you survives without becoming an absolute brat is what makes for a successful adult. Not these “over-optimised” schedules, where god forbid if every waking second is not accounted for.

Hi guys. Didn't post since last two days because my tendencies to miss deadlines was consuming me. I just was feeling a bit guilty(I have stopped feeling so since February 2022,but somehow this feeling had again engulfed me post college exams). So, I went to give the test today. Though, I feel I wrote it far from what I can term as satisfactory, but koi nahi. I was poor on reproducing what I had learnt, but am an eternal hopeful. Also,I believe Economics is something which can give me incremental returns with 1-2 more revisions(since I had just revised my Mains notes twice and there was a month long gap when I made them before exams) Now, I will be shifting to Geography.

Also, Sunday seems to be good day for deep observers in Delhi Metro. On Sundays, a decent amount of DU crowd  seeks weekend dates, the small kids and  outstation youth seek a trip to India Gate and blah blah. And, then there is usual but relatable survival economy where struggling aspirants are jostling with some hope and huge aspirations.Furthermore, I again lost my way. Not once but twice. Initially, I found it hard to locate the new test centre and then way back home, I landed up in Patel Nagar from Karol Bagh to strike home a realisation that I need to change the metro and subsequently, the platform.

Also, next few hours are for good, relishing food accompanied by soothing movie or webseries.

Back to posting targets.

You will also find some people in the metro who prefer to sleep no matter how crowded and what the circumstances may be like. I aspire to be like them XD

The journey of CSE becomes more cumbersome when a person clears GS 1 comfortably but fails Csat repeatedly.

Clearing GS 1 repeatedly gives you confidence that you are on right track but CSAT failure (2 in line) do not give you a chance to cheer on your good work.

I believe getting competency in Csat is difficult in limited time. I joined amit garg's course in my 2022 attempt but it was full of crap.

Can anyone tell me how to master csat?

I use the PYQ and practice. I think sleepyclasses also has a YouTube playlist for CSAT which is good

Today's Progress-

A small confession- Last 10-12 pages of Monthly are still to be finished.

So,I found a decent rhythm after a week or so after I was done with exams. I honestly loved it.Today was a slow ride, where I could grasp almost everything I read. Even reading the Vision monthly didn't seem like a shitty task.

@LetsGetThisBread Same energy yaar. If there is one thing that I love the most(and still quite inaccessible),it is my sleep. A funny anecdote here- So, last summer when I felt like sleeping while studying, I made a mischievous plan. I closed my room and even the fans to ensure that I get to hear the footsteps when my parents come near the door. But alas, I was caught red handed.

In my limited choice of aspirations, I want to have 3-4 days on trot, where I just sleep and sleep without having to care for anything.

@Morticia This is such a good start. Best of luck dost.

@DancingMaster You didn't change your username but rather you are reborn:neutral_face:

@huck A genuine advice- Except for IR part of GS2, don't jump to Mains 365 straightway. It will make the coverage of topics a bit haphazard.

Shubh Ratri doston.

*I need to run since the gates to my society close at around 10:15.

I still do this. Take a 20 minute power nap and pray like anything I don’t get caught. Uska maza hi alag h. Mission impossible level ka thrill hota h 😂

Posting my targets here for tomorrow (because shaam ke 5 baje college se wapis aakar schedule banane ka motivation is as elusive as unicorns, or me sticking to my exercise schedule XD). So targets for 5.9.22 are:

NABARD (high priority)

Daily C/A

Editorial notes

May C/A backlog-20-25

Will we get the bread tomorrow? Time will tell I guess :)

Got done absolutely nothing so far. Didn’t realise how draining going back to college is going to be in this heat. I over anticipated my own productivity levels. It doesn’t help that I’m fasting as well. The first week of getting back into my IF routine is always painful. Yeh hafta low productivity m hi niklega I guess, FML

Got a newfound love for life. Love you zindagi!

I was hospitalised for the last 15 days, in the initial days my fever was hovering around 101 all the time even after heavy paracetamol. Blood tests, canola, syringes and all the painful tests I had gone through. Sometimes I felt Im losing myself in the war, even the doctors scared me as reason for high fever could not be diagnosed. It was so painful that words wont be enough to explain.

Not only my experience but I heard about a 4 month old baby admitted in the hospital. In the emergency, I heard noises of family of a man in 30s crying who died of an accident. My nurse told me about another man who died in ICU. One of my roomates had to go through MRI to spot a blood clot in brain which was causing hazy vision to him. A diabetic aunty who was not able to move her right hand beyond a point after a road accident. An alcoholic college boy had destroyed his pancreas or liver I couldn't remember to whom the doctor said youll die in 3 months if you dont quit alcohol. You get to know many things when you stay such a long time in hospital.

I came home today. Heaven. We take most of the things for granted, quality time with family and friends, all the UPSC pain everything is a blessing. Every painless breath is a blessing.

Naukri aur chokri, you get these desirable and life is set we used to say in college. These 15 days changed my whole perspective for looking towards life. Healthy and a painless life is indeed underrated

And I swear from today Ill never crib about shitty things like career and UPSC.

'Love you zindagi'

I’m glad you’re doing better now. I hope you never have to suffer. After seeing my mum hospitalised for a month in 2020 and literally in the danger zone for 10 days I realised how precious life is and how much we take others around us for granted. I remember journaling a line on the day she was hospitalised. She was so weak with fever she literally had to be lifted out of the car and carried to the doctor and she whispered to me “I feel I’m going to die.” The situation was that grave indeed, so here’s what I wrote:

“I’ve always been very realistic about mortality but this hits a little too close for comfort. Knowing that your parents are human too, susceptible to injuries too is a lesson we all learn early on in our childhood. At that time, it simply pricks the bubble of invincibility of your parent. You realise your parent isn’t the god you imagined them to be. But the second time, it’s as an adult is usually when your parent falls really sick, and then it is a subtle reminder of how little time you have left with them, which is even scarier, since the consequences are far graver.”

Just sharing this here, don’t know if this is over sharing or not 😶

Slow day. Was occupied with downloading Mrunal Geography Lectures till 1:30 pm.They have poor resolution and the YT download was downloading in a much poorer resolution, before I could find a solution.

Anyway, quite satisfied with the day. Also, would like to thank the person who shared that video with a hack of blocking of your breath. It works for me, when I feel distracted while studying.

*I did SSA Khan with notes, but not Aurobindo Ghoshji. Also done G1 and 75% of G2 of Geomorphology Playlist of Rajtanil Ma'am.

Also, guys I so so need to finish Geography before September ends.Tough hai, but if this happens, my job is easier from now on.

Also, asking for an advice(those who have written Mains)-Can I keep some tests of MGP for January and February(Like Art and Culture)?Like giving Mains tests while I revise those topics for approaching Prelims+ some note making for Mains too side by side(like 2-3 days in whole month of February)?Btana please.Also@LetsGetThisBread ,do you recommend doing this?

Also, I see people in Delhi meditating in parks at around 10 am. I genuinely feel like asking them-

Image result for bhai kya kar raha hai tu

Shubh Ratri doston!

Tbh I never gave mains tests before pre… because confidence hi nhi aata ki pre qualify hoga ki nhi. Having said that instead of full fledged mains tests you could do some answer writing if you feel like. Because I do believe ki prelims does require dedicated time where you’re only doing that and nothing else.

Had my NABARD exam today which is why did not post any targets for the past couple of days. Even though I knew I had no chance of clearing this exam but still felt kind of ashamed to show up without having read a single topic. So, after appearing for it today, one thing that I can safely say is that my chances of flunking an exam have never been so apparent. It was bad.

Anyways, back to business. Ab tak jo thoda bht padha hai, aaj usko revise karne ka plan hai.

Arrey same to same dost

Did a little bit of everything without really finishing anything. My “stepping out for a bit” turned into a 10 hour thing. I’ve literally just woken up and have realised that I need to have more self control if I need to get back on track seriously. Will do everything possible to complete the targets today

Terrorism aur dipin sir ka class chhodke managed to do all. Despite not being able to complete all my targets yesterday still felt like a good day because it was a positive progress towards goal completion unlike what the past few days have felt. I felt like the “old bread” back for a moment and not like “stale bread”.

Tbh I get you and exactly what you’re going through. Losing old contacts is honestly part and parcel of this process, i doubt there’s anyone who doesn’t do so. But losing old friends is also part and parcel of life and not just unique to this process. You get a new job, you move cities, you get busy, make your life, and soon enough you’ll find that your other friends are doing the same as well and living their lives as well. And the next thing you know, you go from meeting every day, to meeting every few weeks, to months, to finally catching up on your 15 year school get together. The point is, everyone gets busy with their lives, no matter how much they promise that they will keep in touch. Just take a look at our own parents, how often do they “hang out” with their friends, do you think they didn’t promise their college friends that they would keep in touch, or write letters.

Losing friends, being alone is ultimately what everyone is destined for (no, I’m not being existential right now, just realistic… akele aaye h aur akele jayenge kind of truism). Having said that, we are never truly alone, look around you there’s so much potential for company at any given second, and minute of your existence. India m aabadi hi itni h ki log har jagah, chaaron taraf mil jayenge. Throughout this process, I felt I could no longer relate to my older friends, so much so that I too cut off from them, but I kept in touch with the ones that mattered. When I felt that I needed a group who could get the nuances of what I was going through, I came to Forum and honestly found some of the best people here. Dost banana h toh dost dhoondo, sirf preparation mates nahi. You’ll feel less lonely, if you make friends whom you intend to stay in touch with beyond this preparation as well, irrespective of whether you actually end up doing that or not.

Log aate jaate rahenge, but agar significant tareeke se engage karoge toh unki acchi yaadein aur di hui seekh reh jaayegi.

Loneliness is not the case with me bcz i have great bond with my friends and they are always there for me and are a pillar of strength + motivation ,that's why i don't say anything on these matters bcz this may not be the case with others .

Yeah i agree there are a lot of good people present on this community and i have been fortunate to meet many of them and who has become great friends and they have showed me what  healthy competition is and i have made a good no of friends during this preparation

How is everyone? Preparation going good?

How is everyone? Preparation going good?

Whim and impulse have taken control of the ship. I tried to placate them by taking help of senecaji but to no avail. Like a bunch of stubborn bratty child, they even taunted me trying to bait me into giving them a good thrashing. But i realised the more i try to be controlling and overbearing the more their defiance grows. So, for now i am waiting it out, hoping they get tired and go to sleep ,like all children do, and i may have my peace of mind back and i may get down to do some serious work XD

How is it going over there 😅

Something similar going on with me. Even I am going with the flow. Being out at prelims is such a different feeling. I want to study alot, but somehow just can't.

Same here. Keeping myself distracted and busy. I can read anything but upsc notes. I feel like puking.

Hello frens and ferns of forum. Just got back an hour ago from college with a massive headache. After a cup of kadak chai, and kamar kaso-int we’re back with targets for the day. Was taking two days off to grieve the untimely death of pillu. Targets for 16.9.22 are:

Frens I have done it! Managed to finish all except Dipin sir’s class in a record 5.5 hours. It was a push and a heave but I was determined to achieve my targets. This also means that I waste a lot of time in between study sessions, if I have managed to complete almost an entire day’s worth of targets in a span of less than 6 hours. Quite a good realisation for an aspirant who doesn’t have the luxury of time and an entire day on my side. Good night and sweet (bread) dreams all!

2. People looked up to me during my first year. Now I'm irrelevant. Not really. But I feel like so!!

3. It's hard for me to open up to my friends .

Bas itna hi.fun ka fomo nahi horaha muje, but feel I'll be alone. I'm sure uske liye you guys are there!

It would be better if you give me validation and stuff like that

Yeh 22 m hi fomo ho rha h toh hum 28 year olds ka hona chahiye? 😂

Ho jayega yaar. This reminds me of the story of the rabbit and the elephant. Rabbit and the elephant were expecting babies around the same time. Rabbit had many babies and made fun of the elephant which has a really long gestational period. But when the elephant baby was born and it grew up all the other animals looked at it in awe. Hum bhi haathi ka baccha paal rhe h, khargosh toh bohot milenge.

Convocation ke baad we went to a trip, trip mai did all the fun you can expect from 22-23 year old.

Hey, it's been 2 years since my engineering graduation. About the fact that friends earning good salaries. Let me tell you what my friends say to me always.

"At least you know what you're doing and progressing towards that. And if you succeed, it would be much more than our jobs. We have no idea what we're upto right now. Paisa mil jaata h, maze kr lete h. Baaki nothing else. Even if you envy us so much, aa jaana 2-3 saal baad humare saath hi. Referrals se set krwa denge."

Relax and carry on with your prep. :)

Me and my cousin (captains of 2 teams) used to play for like 3-4 days. Aur un bacchon ko maximum 1 din me all out. Fir baad mein wo bacche bade ho gaye aur hamara game chhota ho gaya ;p

I’m also surprised by seeing how effectively “aajkal ke bacche” can manage all their social media accounts while also studying. There is now definitely a generation gap. Waise mera to same generation me generation gap hai :D

I’m usually judgemental and sceptical of virtual friends. Always ek haath ki duri.

Hi guys. My progress today-

@Naadan_Parinda Haha.Another anecdote-Me and my friends applied for an inter- department cricket tournament in college(those ones which happen along with Departmental fests). So, while we were defending a total, I had to bowl. While I bowled pretty well in my first over and took 3 wickets,I still ended as the culprit due to the second over I bowled. With one wicket remaining and around 25 runs to defend in last 2 overs, I squandered around 20 odd runs kyunki muscles had given up by then:neutral_face:.

@LetsGetThisBread Haha. Ab tum margdarshak mandal ki President ho naa forum pe.Since everbody else is bowing to your highness, please consider my offerings too.

@Morticia Wow. You have some knack of capturing good stuff.

@Naadan_Parinda I relate with you on ageing before time. Only last evening sister was asking as to why I don't ask for money from her to get some 'feel good' stuff(apparel and all). Only inner me knows that I don't get intimidated to buy such stuff 2-3 saloon se:neutral_face:.

Shubh Ratri doston!

Henlo frems I see I have been missed. Do din koi padhai nhi ki… aise hi 😬 yeh bhi ek ajeeb hi guilty pleasure hota h jiska beech beech m anand lena chahiye. My college classes have started and agle Tuesday se I’ll be teaching kids English in some government school… yeh mat pucho kahan, kyunki mujhe bhi nahi pata abhi tak, you’ll have to take that burning curiosity with you to your grave only… or at least till the time I get allotted a school. Lesson plans are a pain in the neck, literally soch soch ke stress pains ho gye h. Also it made me realise just how little thought my teachers actually put into teaching in my school. Ab dimag lagaake speaking activities banane pad rahe h toh dimag ka dahi ho chuka h… yeh chemical reaction kyun nahi sikhate school m kabhi?

In other news, if anyone has any ideas about tehat they wished their English teacher would make them do in the class, please iss thread ko spam karna. Also any ideas on how to deal with adolescent bacche bhi bata dena agar kisi ne baacha dekha ho toh. Maine sirf lab m dekhe h unhe 🙃

Hello frens aaj I’m back-ish with targets for 27.9.22. Do din padhane ke gham m guzare h.

Jun- 19- 24 backlog

Environment

PSIR- poverty

Govt boys school mila h, woh bhi Hindi medium. Pata nhi kis janam ka paap mit rha h ab. Aaj pehla din tha toh padhana nhi pada but I’m already drained 😂  I stopped two boys who picked up one of their classmates and were pretending to throw him from the railing. I saw teachers hitting the kids mercilessly. In fact ek ki aankh m bhi chot lagi thi maarne ke wajah se. Library ke naam pe ek kamre m 4 shelves h jinpe taala laga hua h. Teachers come and go as they please, as long as syllabus pura ho jaye kisi ko koi farak nahi padta. Will keep updating as I keep teaching. I’m sure kuch na kuch interesting dekhne ko milega… after all boys school m PGT English banke jaa rhe h.

P.S: starting anew layout for my digital planner gives so much satisfaction. It’s raspberry pink flowers in case anyone was wondering. 🙃

Hi everyone,

Coming back to forum for accountability after a long time. I hope I stay. I'll be studying for two things for the next eight months—UPSC prelims & RBI Grade B (Both Phase I & Phase II).

In my last attempt, I decided to write RBI after getting very low marks in my UPSC prelims mock tests. It was supposed to be a backup. I managed to do well but I could not clear the sectional cutoff for Quant. In UPSC too, I was fairly confident of getting to write Mains after tallying my answers with coaching answer keys but did not find my name in the list. Studied for NABARD for two months after that but could not give my best. I just could not put in the hours. The result for NABARD phase 1 isn't out but I am, most probably, not going to make it. So, I need to start studying for 2023 with a view to do good in RBI as well as UPSC prelims.

I want to complete studying the Finance & Management paper of RBI, cover the current affairs backlog for both RBI & UPSC & do one revision of LR & Quant in the month of October. In November, I want to complete the ESI portion of RBI & topics of UPSC prelims that I am particularly week at—Geography, Ecology, Science Basics & some parts of environment. After that, I can focus more of my time at prelims alone. So, that's the plan for now.

I'll start posting my targets from tomorrow.

Yay! Welcome back my friend! ❤️

@LetsGetThisBread  Please tell me more about your planner because I really need one. Excel sheets aren't helping😅

I wanted to say, I'm team popcorn too. 🍿👀🍿

I’ve just created a notebook on GoodNotes. I have a monthly spread basically by diving a page into half by drawing a vertical and writing down my to do list on it. I also have a yearly where I write out broad goals for the month ahead. Great advantage is that I can create a lot of highlighter and pen colours and essentially I use it as an excuse to keep me motivated to complete my goals 😂

So I have wasted a day giving a send off to my dear-est friend today.I always expected@D503 to light the fireworks. Now I have an opinion and that isn't a favourite amongst guys studying for an exam that is oriented towards Humanities.

So, I was being taught Hohfeld's theory by my favourite ma'am(Anju Vali Tikoo ma'am). So ma'am did posit a question before all of us in the due course of teaching the topic. The question was-What came first, Claims or Power?

She  did explain the query superlatively. But, I would try to introduce that aspect in the debate sparked by my bhai@D503.So, Tyagis tried to bully and so did all the nincompoops who don't think twice before challenging the authority of the State.

And, I am super satisfied that State is being Retributive when its authority is jeopardised. State can reform what can be moderated. But, who will moderate the devilish tendencies of individuals trying to push girls into flesh trade. Or, for that matter trying to illegally grab properties and if restrained, then resorting to bullying.

Bulldozers aren't always the solution but they do send a message and a relevant one. The message that the State ain't a Soft State anymore. Furthermore, bulldozing ain't a lasting solution and I agree here. But, what it leads to is a general impression of state coming after you, for the grave wrongs you commit. This consequentially leads to fear and helps in establishing rule of law. Imagine raping a girl and a reformative system rewarding one with life skill courses in jail.

Also, the formation of governments is duly in the hands of the  people of the country. And, in the process, they are entitled to Administraive Discretion, where bullying the untamed is a good option in some instances.

To conclude from where I started, there ain't any Claims sans Power. What we as citizens will demand if the idea of an imposing state itself is watered down.

@LetsGetThisBread Jaise teacher, vaise unke bacche.

Guys idhar virtuous batein kar rahi hai ye@Morticia . Vaise she called me Perk for being as thin as that wafer cum chocolate is.

@Pepethefrog Tumhe kyon cancel karna.Especially, after thatblife saving suggestion of using less amount of detergent

Ab toh@nerdfighter bhi aa gya. Tum kaha ho@Radhika25A. Will you gatecrash 2024 ka thread?

Vaise, welcome@nerdfighter bro. I also kinda missed you. I contemplated asking for your continued absence but then backed off.

Kal padte hain. Also, Vikram Vedha is shitty, except for Hrithik Roshan's presence.

Shubh Ratri doston!

Lol my professor says, I hope you find students who are like you to all his students. For some it’s a curse and for others a blessing, Ab don’t know which category I fall into 😂

@D503 Haha, Lal Salam bhai.Ye@Morticia jhoothi hai.Her daily itinerary be like-

Jhoot bolo baar baar Jhoot bolo ||Modi ji remix song || - YouTube

To begin with, you made a great attempt at sly by drawing analogies of Iran,Afghanistan and all.And this ie precisely where you got me wrong.Firstly, in the examples cited there is no chosen sovereign,as John Austin and Thomas Hobbes would have liked in the enforcement of Legal Positivism. Secondly, they don't fit in the definition of State by any measure. They are religio-political territories in their very foundation. Thirdly, what I see as a Hard State is somewhat akin to what Margaret Thatcher did at the height of Labour class movements. Like, imposing the whims of a State when the State is pestered beyond a threshold.Fourthly, I have emphasised on the fact that State should moderate what can be reformed.

To draw an analogy, dissent is a tool that is to be appreciated in a democratic scheme of things. But then, it shouldn't challenge the authority of the State. It shouldn't lead to a situation where ruffians like Tikait threaten to march to Parliament and make a mockery by violating the sanctity of Republic Day celebrations.A Hard State would have taken every measure to get roads in the national capital cleared when protests became perpetual and protesters as another set of 'professionals'.

In a Soft State, an ex-RAW Chief(Dulat) goes on to be a mercenary of our rogue neighbour. In a Hard State,an Edward Snowden struggles for asylum, for exposing the ills of the panopticon controller aka USA(and, I respect USA for doing what I see as a national interest in a Nation-State structure)

@LetsGetThisBread It will be a blessing. You spread such positive vibes all around. This forum is a testimony to that.

Let me explain it you in Dhamaal type sequence@THE_MECHANIC bhai. Aggrawal Sweets Delhi hai naa. Usski sate wali gali Mei nahi jaana hai.Aagey chalte rehna, phir Merath wale aayegi, usski ssath wali gaali Mei bhi nahi jaana hai. Hi friends,

So I have decided to move on from upsc preparation. It was impacting my health - mental and physical.

I have attempts and age left but I do not know if/when I will come back to chase this goal again. May be someday /may be never.

Thanks everyone for your kind suggestions and tips which you gave whenever I needed help.

It is difficult to stop thinking about something you have thought about and immersed yourself in hardwork for years.

On a side note : I think I can write a post/something on " What  not  to do for upsc". But then again who will read? And Why to scratch my old wounds and suffer pain again? Nevermind.

May everyone get fruits of their hardwork.

(っ⌒‿⌒)っ

As your name suggests tum brave ho to admit this. Many people stay on in this preparation merely due to the sunken cost fallacy. But if there’s one thing I know its that nothing truly goes to waste, this might sound really cliche but that is the truth. Jo seekha h yaha, and I don’t mean merely in terms of knowledge, but in terms of mental resilience and work ethic will stand you in really good stead. So jao mere jabaaz khub aandhi toofan karo!

Did some bits on Day 121. Like, I just finished May monthly of Vision today and I seem to be lagging quite a bit.Par karna toh hai hi and time always seems less.

@LetsGetThisBread School times mei toh hamesha exams home hi rehte hai. Tabhi, I always feel ki UPSC just demands regularity of school days, which unfortunately has withered in the storm of college days masti!

@D503 I don't have any of these  traits, except for joint pains.Should I feel to be in 10s?

Shubh Ratri doston!

Yeh school toh gazab creativity se cheating karwata h. Teachers are always standing outside or looking at their phones while invigilating. Some even leave the class because they know they’ve not taught much in the term so they have to invent ways for the kids to pass the exams

Before I sleep, a funny anecdote. In our 12th class Chemistry practicals, the lab assistant distributed chemical samples with names written on chits. The storm stuck when some lads from our class even named the chemical whilst their chemical ki pudiya remained intact. The invigilator from outside was served good food(maybe some ghoos) to sort put things.

Shubh Ratri!

Waaah alag level ki confidence aati h when teachers also help you out 😂

Pillar 5 and 6

Fun fact: it’s really easy for teachers to figure out who’s about to cheat because they always look at you and then hunker down a bit. Kids think we don’t see them and that they’re being really clever when they get away with cheating, little do they realise whatever little they are able to achieve in terms of “collaborative assessment” is because we turn a blind eye. I wonder if my teacher ever saw me exchange sheets in school and then decided to turn a blind eye to it 😅

@LetsGetThisBread I guess I had "the look" even when I wasn't cheating which explains why teachers used to stand next to me in exam hall and kept on looking at whatever I was writing. 🥲

I don’t do that thankfully 😂 I straight up take the answer sheet and flip through it instead 😬😬😬

Forget him I find quoting any of these UPSC teachers CRINGE at best!

I had even typed a comment requesting you to do your B.ed training with all seriousness in morning but then left halfway.

I've felt that people having qualifications for teaching posts & having qualified for similar exams do hell better than these people. Sometimes we all take help of these UPSC teachers because dearth of options but try comparing them with your school or college teachers recruited by a properly laid down process.  Yes, you might feel that they don't teach enough but you will feel the difference in whatever little they do.

Nothing against anyone, wrote what I felt. I found the so called best faculties in coachings as below average & hence a rant maybe. Haha!

Dono ka function alag h. We can’t truly compare them. Coaching cater to a completely different ecosystem and study routine. They are not aimed at inculcating critical thinking or analytical skills necessarily, they’re aimed at helping you clear an exam. At any point if you do evolve analytical or critical thinking skills, those are incidental. Whereas colleges are focused on analysis and critical thinking in depth on a particular subject. They require reflection at length in only a specific area of study.

Havingsaid that, I do agree that we shouldn’t glorify anyone, be it school/university teachers or coaching teachers. Both sets of people are only humans with a particular agenda to fulfil.

@D503 Ldaai jagda chalta rehna chahiye. On a serious note, I see Ramayana as a decentralised historical text with multiple interpretations. The major point of contention is whether Uttara Kandh is a part of Ramayana or not since it has certain references where Bhagwan Ram comes across as an anomaly to his prior description. And, if I can recall correctly, even Ami Ganatra(new translator in the game) in a recent podcast cited this reference of Ghee and Dog!

Can completely relate with sporadic schedule thingy even though i don't have any school related work or anything else to do. Maybe it's the winter inertia XD

Winter inertia is real! Especially if you have a sunny terrace to laze on 😬
