Joined L2A last year. Would not recommend because of delays in checking, lack of personal remarks, no model answers... I'd probably join Karandeep sir's TS this year. But, I think the best thing we can do is to form a group among ourselves and share/ review answers. If anyone is up for it, please tell.

is there any current affair related stuff in anthro or is it more or less static like you read some books , make notes and then you are done. asking for a friend

Most of it is static... But if you only do the basic books and make notes and get done, then you will not score much...
You need to substantiate it with current affairs..
Also, lately UPSC has started asking questions on broad themes that were in news..  Obviously you can answer them in some way with the knowledge of basics, but current affair thoda bahut toh dekhna hi hoga .. especially in case studies/examples in paper 2.

the ladder is : Moeity ->Phratry ->Clan ->Lineage

Moeity: the whole society is divided into only 2 kinship groups. Eg. Australian Aborigines
Phratry:  an unilineal descent group composed of multiple clans which feel close connection with each other. So essentially a bunch of clans with some linkages to each other. Eg. Gonds
Clan: an unilineal descent group- larger than a lineage and tracing ancestry to a common ancestor but not specified. Basically interrelated families but who aren’t sure of how many generations back the lineage goes. Eg. Rajput clans- trace descent from Chandra but no fixed genealogy (Gotra)
Lineage: where decent can be traced from a common ancestor. Eg. ‘Vansh’ in Hindu society - Sooryavanshi, Raghuvanshi

So there can be Rajput kings belonging to a clan but when they trace their ancestry back to a King specifically known, eg. Man Singh, that’s lineage. And in this example their clan is Kachwaha.

Thanks bro can you elaborate more on moiety and phartry with Indian context on basis of caste not tribes ???

WELL EXPLAINED.
As far as I know, this classification is specific to tribes and is not really applicable (or not really used by anthropologists) to study castes in India.  Hence, you will mainly find examples related to tribes only.
You can try to find this within Indian caste and all, but I believe that beyond a point it will be a futile exercise..

Anyway, if@necromancer has some examples, please enlighten me as well :)

@komarambheem31. yes made notes for both the papers.. since i was very confused with numerous resources have made elaborate notes from various sources. handwritten
2. referred sachin gupta n bhuvnesh patil notes, followed anudeep, yogesh patil blogs for topic wise resources to be followed.
3. yes went topic wise.. saw pyqs of each topic n made notes so that all pyqs are answered .. for example.. marriage chap then marriage definition is it universal, kathleen gough n other prominent anthropologist definition, types of marriage with examples of tribes, rules of marriage, residential rules linked to marriage, 8 types of marriage in tribes, linking marriage to economy (bride price, dowry), society... some current happenings..
4. went topic wise n covered all possibe questions in that topic..
5.braintree was base material, used vaid sir notes for value addition n fill in gaps, especially ppr2, topper notes jo topic kahi nhi mila n google...

@Anduin this will be my first mains..

Also@Rashmirathi , I have zero clue about test series as of now. Right now I am focussing on finishing paper 2 till the result for prelims come out. I mean I know that I will clear it, but I have kept that in mind as a deadline.

Also, I am personally thinking of going for karandeep sir's test series. My only issue with test series is that big institutes take a lot of time to evaluate answers and I am looking for a bit personalised test series. I don't mind if the crowd is less there, I just want somewhat personalized attention from any test series that I join..

Long story short, I am also somewhat clue less about test series. So i will wait atleast till the end of this month to decide on which one to join.

@sjerngal yep you’re correct. I’ve never come across any examples in the Indian caste context. I suppose the origins could be linked to these and there might be some tribes who are now in the caste fold who’s system features Moeity and Phratry but it would be very rare. I do have some memory of reading about a caste in the south, strong tribal roots and they did feature Moeity.

So I also agree it’s pretty futile and unnecessary.
