[ Official ] UPSC CSE Notification for 2024 - Application Form Self Help Group

Sir, does the photograph have to be uploaded in square dimensions? In the notification they have mentioned 550 x 550 pixels (minimum) and 1000 x 1000 pixels (maximum). I took that to mean that the width and height both have to between 550 and 1000 pixels, and uploaded a rectangular dimensioned photograph. However, on uploading the photograph, it is displayed in a square frame for preview, and as a result is quite distorted (elongated breadth-wise).
Will the preview photo be printed on my final form, or will the aspect ratio be maintained in it?

@JARVIS2 I got the photograph resized to square dimensions. Now it is 709x709 pixels. They added some white space along the width to make the length and width of the photograph match. In the new jpg file, the face area is around 77%(rudimentary calculation) of total file area, so I think it should be acceptable.
After uploading the square dimensioned photo, the elongation of the face problem is gone. So, I think it is better to get square dimensioned photograph for the online file. I plan to take the rectangular dimensioned photo to the center (without borders).
