Which is the best pen for UPSC Mains?

In terms of comfort while writing for long periods, a non-interrupting ink, glide over the paper, water resistance etc.

Good friends of forum, after countless hours of YouTube pen reviews (that is a thing, I just learnt as well), I have found the hauser crystal gel. I just got it, so like all things new, the excitement of being owned by a person is motivating my pen to work really well. Let’s see how long this relationship lasts as well as how we weather the “middle period”. Will we be a success or simply a “middling” relationship? Shall keep you guys posted

Did you get it online? Please share the link, kind soul!

Btw I checked and it’s available on Amazon

I use the Pilot Hitech 05 Rollerball pen. Have been using this since my school days so my hand is used to it. There are two drawbacks though:

1. It gets over pretty fast.

2. Grip is a problem during a 3 hour exam but I recently discovered that you can get a pencil grip separately and attach it to any pen while writing. I find that solution better than changing the pen I have been using for years.

The last time I think we were all so excited for pens was when the great Switch from Pencil happened. :D

It's kinda cute though, us behaving like little kids. :)

Does  pilot v5 has a cartridge refill? Didn't know .
From where to source it ? Amazon shows only V7 cartridges

@PixkaSaA If it's possible pls show ink color of Hauser Tech 5. And if you used it in actual mains, pls do give your feedback.

Thanks.

I used mostly Trimax (rorito) during mains. I guess only one paper was with Hauser as it was my secondary choice. But like I said earlier, for me both are equally good. 19-20 ka farak. Rest assured you can see the ink colour for yourself and be the jury :) ✌️

This is the V5 cartridge system Pen.

The cartridge of V5 and V7 is essentially the same. So same refill in both.

With huge experience of writing CSE Mains and qualifying 3 of them, I can say with conviction that Rollerball pens (Pilot V5/V7, Hauser Tech 5, Trimax, Uniball eye micro etc) are better choice for writing Mains compared to ball pen/gel pen. These pens improve legibility, presentation and writing speed.

For 2019 and 2020 Mains, i had used Hauser Tech 5. In earlier Mains, I used Butterflow and Reynolds 045. I really feel bad about coming to know about these Rollerball pens so late in life (All thanks to my vernacular Govt school education where everybody used local ball pens or Reynolds 045 at best; During Engineering, never bothered about writing).

All these Rollerball pens are quite similar in nature and you can choose one as per your convenience. Personally, i prefer Hauser Tech 5.

Are any of these (the rollerball ones that you mentioned) waterproof?

@indianhuman Hauser Tech5, Trimax & Uniball Eye micro are completely water-proof. Pilot v5/v7 is not 100% water-proof but does not fade too much in case of accidental water spillage; so that is not a concern at all. All these pens are really good and there is very minute difference among them. Write 1-2 tests with each pen and choose the one which suits you more.

have you tried uniball air micro in mains ? bcz here somebody told me that it can leak on other side or have dark impression on mains answer sheet.

@dalpha  I had tried all these rollerball pens in test-series and settled for Hauser Tech 5. So i have used only hauser tech 5 in Mains.
