My reflection on answer writing

  1. You need proper or at least basic understanding of that topic to write a good answer there’s no trick or magic.
  2. Before writing the first word you should structure in mind that how I’m going to write it till conclusion otherwise you will face the problem of breaching word limit.
  3. At first glance of the question we always tend to feel that we know the topic but can’t actually write two pages on it but once you start without structure you end up with a messed up answer. So we should do brainstorming for at least 30-40 seconds then should go ahead.
  4. You can’t write a perfect model answer while actually writing the paper (Accept the fact). It’s about good answers not the perfection.
  5. Before writing a full length test (20 questions) or even mini tests (5/8 questions) you should write 50-100 single answers to be well prepared for the tests which means you should learn how to write a answer. If you start the mini tests and learning answer writing simultaneously then you might end up with failing at both.
  6. No video or lecture on “How to write UPSC answers” will end up teaching you the skill required for the writing instead it’s the practice and finding your own style to frame answers sometimes we try to copy the pattern of some famous topper but with little success.
  7. Time management should be given top priority because it’s not about writing 20 beautiful answers instead it’s about writing 20 answers in 3 hours which will be mixed of good and average answers.
  8. It’s a continuous process if you’ve left the answer writing for few months then you might need to start all over again or at least i will call it rhythm of the wrist.

P.S. - It’s just a opinion.

Cute wishes,

Pavan
