Indian History Nomenclature

Has anyone ever discussed with a good prof/teacher about leaders preferring boycotting stuff being called extremists but those who actually chose violence were called revolutionaries by us? (and terrorists by the British but that is understandable). Should have been vice versa, no? If the only reason to call the former group extremists was from the perspective of moderates then that's a narrow use of vocab imho.
