Hey guys, so this is my first comment/post on any prep related platform ever. I thought I needed to say this to get it out of the way before I dive in for the upcoming cycle again. A few days ago, I couldn't clear my second prelims. The first one I wrote in 2021 was with haphazard planning and complete neglect of csat. I scored 7.5 marks below the cut off, so that motivated me to go for the second attempt, thinking I can manage the gap. To be very honest, it felt like I did everything possible (though there's always scope for more). PYQs, sfg 1 and 2, mocks, same source multiple times, and it really felt like I would get through this time. I didn't. It did not feel good. I know in the next few days I can muster up the courage to go for this again, but it is a little exhausting. Kind of feels like I'm doing a diploma in pre for the past two years lol.
What I completely missed out on in my last two attempts was peer support. I barely knew of anyone else preparing until 2/3 months ago. I'm hoping to be a part of this journey with a support group this time :) Will be appearing next year with philo optional (if there's anyone with philo pls let me know). This was just a little venting I needed to do before I decide to go back to 8 hour sittings and soul crushing back pains. A word of caution or advice would be immensely helpful :) thanks!

Caution- The coming year will be a journey of ups and downs.

Advice- Life is like that only. :)

Mann hi ni kar raha. Itna mann karta hai to come back on Forum but this is not 2020 anymore. My friends@whatonly ,@AzadHindFauz @sjerngal  and many others are already selected and I am still slogging. I come here and I feel defeated. Isiliye, mann ni karta aane ka yahan.

Thankyou for the nice and motivating words junta. I feel happy to see people around me there to look for support. The journey is tough. It is. But maybe at the end of the tunnel, sun shines brighter than ever. :)

@Sam230 What I am trying this year is to do newspaper and Rau's focus.
Newspaper- extremely limited note making. No matter what, a day's info should not cross half a page of an A4 sheet.
Magazine- Notes of Rau's focus.
Why Rau's? Because they explain rather than copy paste.
Why newspaper limited notes? It will be there in the magazine. Note only some one liner CA or a great quote, thought in short from the paper.

// I am more and more inclined to believe that this exam is basically a test of how well you can manage and organise stuff. // 100% agreed@D503 .

I, believe consolidation of current affairs is also a, measure of your confidence. Like for someone who has covered monthlies for a year, there is, no need for mains 365. But sadly, we are, not confident enough.

All we need is a bit of confidence and let go a fear of the unknown, consolidation will start from there.

5 Aug: 4 Newspapers, 5 Pre PYQs, some Ethics

Came across a profound comment today: Child Marriage is Child Prostitution/Sex Trafficking, with Narrow client base.

Didn't do anything. I'm a useless lump of flesh & bones, without an iota of self-discipline.

Totally relatable! 😅

@iphoole Try Rau's Mains Compass. OnlyIAS material is not a good base material but a good value addition material.

@SergioRamosHey, I am primarily looking for a source to make Intro - points - conclusion format notes. I just find onlyIAS ones to be a bit concise and upto the point. I have read standard books for polity, economy etc so just trying to merge the two and their material provides the necessary skeleton for this purpose.

I checked Raus mains compass, say for the topic Inclusive growth both have more or less the same point. Raus goes into a bit more depth, but is that depth useful while writing answers? From my limited understanding it's basically generate maximum points, substantiate them and you have a good answer. Have I got it wrong?

And what do you recommend for topics like Society, Governance, Social Justice etc?

Thanks once again.

Prahaar is a good material no doubt. But being a bit dry and too much straight to the point, it can cause problems if one is not acquainted with the topics beforehand. If you have understood the topics properly, Prahar is good.

Even the other topics you will find in Prahaar/Rau's/Vision. No need to go for a book imo.

The difference between an aspirant having 2-3 years of decent prep and a selected candidate is not knowledge. It is just discipline and honesty with oneself.

So funny and infuriating at the same time.

Guys, I need some help. How do you peeps mug up things and revise?

I am not able to do it efficiently and it is costing me heavily in mains.

In my last two mains, I have deduced that mains cannot be cleared without effective mugging up. I am not able to do that properly and it is making me irritated.

Any suggestion how to go about it?

Make your "Dirty notes", by that I mean short notes/ one page notes or anything under the sun , that includes the things that you have difficulty in remembering or things that you want to be on ur tips.

A week before the exam, my productivity was super low, but i keeps revising and recalling all the facts, quotes, diagrams etc. over and over again, so I found it relatively easy to make them a part of my answers as well.

Okay. Take for example I have a 15 page note of an optional topic. How do I go about compressing it? Like there can be two approaches I can think of.

1) dividing the topic into various headings and remembering the headings.

2) writing all the difficult to memories things instead of a micro summary of the topic.

How should I do it. And, are there any alternatives?

Give your input too@LetsGetThisBread . How to go about it?

Targets 14/08/22

1. TIE + Notes

2. Lecture 2D (1)

3. Zoology - Biostats-Exp design + Null Hyp

4. EVS - Finish U8

5. Revision

Read the  Newspaper. So, targets for 15/08 remain the same.

Spent 5 hours helping my sister out with re evaluation formalities 🙂

Took a break yesterday. Aadha din jalebi khaane mein nikal gaya , wanted to watch a movie but ended up listening to songs.

Today was good. All targets except 4 done. Hopefully things will fall into place soon.

“Aadha din jalebi khaane m nikal gaya” sounds like a dream day for me 😂

Jalebi khana is not limited to khana but also jalebi khojna, acchi jalebi milna is an accomplishment 😂

You have turned jalebi into an art form 😂. Garam jalebi and thandi rabri is to die for after a plate of samosas 🥹

Ye duniya mujhe weight loss ni karne degi.  :(

Sigh.

How is everyone? Preparation going good?

How is everyone? Preparation going good?

How is everyone? Preparation going good?

Whim and impulse have taken control of the ship. I tried to placate them by taking help of senecaji but to no avail. Like a bunch of stubborn bratty child, they even taunted me trying to bait me into giving them a good thrashing. But i realised the more i try to be controlling and overbearing the more their defiance grows. So, for now i am waiting it out, hoping they get tired and go to sleep ,like all children do, and i may have my peace of mind back and i may get down to do some serious work XD

How is it going over there 😅

Something similar going on with me. Even I am going with the flow. Being out at prelims is such a different feeling. I want to study alot, but somehow just can't.

@Naadan_Parinda I miss those days. Covid ki wajah se forum became so so active, like a big whatsApp group. From jokes, memes, songs, food to literally everything was here. Amazing times. And padhai related discussions was top notch.

Couldn't even clear CAPF!

Never wanted the job though, but wanted to face UPSC interview before actual interview. Thik h, am meant for greater things I believe.

Ho jayega yaar. This reminds me of the story of the rabbit and the elephant. Rabbit and the elephant were expecting babies around the same time. Rabbit had many babies and made fun of the elephant which has a really long gestational period. But when the elephant baby was born and it grew up all the other animals looked at it in awe. Hum bhi haathi ka baccha paal rhe h, khargosh toh bohot milenge.

Haathi ke bacche paalte paalte main khud haathi kyun hota ja raha hu? 🥲🥲
