Bhai yahi par mai ek unsolicited advice dena chahunga jo mujhe bhi mili thi but maine maani nahi and abb mai heavily regret kar raha hu. Marzi ho toh consider karna ya fir you can chuck it off altogether.

If you are considering doing masters, I would suggest ki open se karo rather than kisi regular college/university se. Because regular course ke khoob chochle hote hai for eg, attendance, internals, assignments and what not. Inn sab mei kaafi time chala jaata hai and CSE ki tyaari ka satyanaash ho jaata hai. Also, naye naye log bhi contact mei aate hai toh usse bhi kahi na kahi asar padta hai.

Mai bhi 2020 mei join kara tha kisi ek central university ka regular masters course and meri tyaari has gone for a toss tbh. Prior to 2020, meri preparation rock solid chal rahi thi but masters ki vajah se sab gadbad hogaya.

Ek example deta hu apne case ka. Mere course ka last sem ka exam iss saal ke mid May se leke first week of June tak thay and side by side June 5 ka prelims bhi tha. I was planning to skip this year’s attempt but mujh par pressure bana ki iss saal ka attempt dena hai kisi bhi haal mei, so I decided ki college ka last sem drop karunga. Abb yeh realisation aayi drop karne ki, prelims se 30 dinn pehle, so mere paas Pre ki tyaari karne ka limited time tha. Iss limited time mei mai GS  paper 1 ka max tyaari kar paaya but csat ko dhyaan nahi de paaya, and vohi hua jiska darr lag raha tha, 5 June ko GS1 ka sahi gaya but csat mei tabiyat vala fuck-up ho gaya.  Abb na hee mains likh paa raha and naa hee degree hath mei aa rahi iss saal. :/

So inn baato ko consider karna decision lete huye. I’m saying this because I’m assuming you are trying to take admission in some regular course as you mentioned CUET.

Agar CSE ki tyaari aur regular course ke chochle ek sath manage kar paao toh boht hee Badia but aisa rarely hota hai. Mera course kuch aisa hai ki meri class ke 50 baccho mei se 45 bacche consider/want to give CSE but course hee itna hectic hogaya ki unn 45 mei se mujhe mila ke 1-2 aur hee hai jo college mei hone ke sath sath attempt bhi diye hai CSE ka, baaki 42-43 logo ne seedha kaha ki course complete hone ke baad hee attempt dengay kyuki time hee nahi milta tyaari karne ka sahi se, so I hope issey tum ek effective decision le paao. :)

Is there any secret/esoteric way to get out of a rut extending more than a month? or maybe we can say years, tbvh.

All these start small, create a schedule, focus on building habits, know your why, etc seems good in theory or while giving gyaan to others. I know many people do these things and they get the results. but for me executing these has become an unattainable task, the vicious loop of procrastination and instant gratification just don't seem to end. and it been over years since i've had any decent day. I know in the end i'd have to figure things out on my own and ranting won't take me anywhere.

Anyway, thanks for reading my rant. Suggestions are welcome, though I know they help much, unless I help myself.

It's quite common to feel detached from the work that you have been doing for a prolonged period of time. You see we humans have a need for achievement, but cse is a long  and an occassionally dull journey. If you don't get that hit of having achieved something at regular intervals , it becomes difficult to continue with the same vigour with which you started. So , my advice to you would be to incorporate regular tests in your schedule, and whenever you feel bored or bummed out , give a test and reward yourself when you perform good. Along with this , you may want to incorporate yet another management technique called Management By objectives (MBO) in your preparation. MBO entails setting SMART goals viz specific, measurable, attainable , relevant, and timely. Nevertheless, there's no guarantee that doing these things will pull you out of the rut. But, over the years I have come to realise that these cliches about starting small, setting goals ,etc have survived because these are the only options available at hand. My father has been chiding me from my childhood days to study according to a timetable , and i scoffed at the idea till i began preparing for cse. Now timetables are the only thing that impart some sort of sanity to me and prevent me from relapsing into long bouts of numbness and langour. In fact, now i wish i had continued with many of the good habits that our parents try to inculcate in us during our childhood like early to bed early to rise, going for a morning run, starting studying early in the morning etc. Or maybe with age i am metamorphosing into what i have resisted becoming the most - my father 😁

PS- all of this is just rhetoric aimed at myself so don't take it too seriously. If you have seriously plunged into cse , you will find a way, You just need some reassurance.

Super👍

I am thinking to develop my basic  static content till September around MGP model answers...

Any suggestions?

Model answers should be used as a value added material only, not for making notes

Mann hi ni kar raha. Itna mann karta hai to come back on Forum but this is not 2020 anymore. My friends@whatonly ,@AzadHindFauz @sjerngal  and many others are already selected and I am still slogging. I come here and I feel defeated. Isiliye, mann ni karta aane ka yahan.

Uljhanein badhti gayi, mai jhelta raha...

Waqt ne maidan me utara, mai khelta raha...

Log kehne lage tu pagal ho jayega, mai sunta raha...

Logo ki baato ko man me dabaye, apne sapne bunta raha...

Lekin kaise batau mai in logo ko, jab waqt badlega to mai nahi mera vishwas badlega...

Fir ye pagal in logo ko nahi, pura itihaas badlega!!!!

Keep slogging, bro. Your time will come!

Very motivational sir, waiting for that day too🙏

Dear nice peeps of forum, help needed. I've been trying to do current affairs but its too overwhelming for me. I read newspaper daily and jot down what seems important. In ONE notebook, all subject at one place, I'm one of those people who prefer notebooks to online media for CA hence the problem in editing data. But when the time to do monthly magazine comes it becomes impossible to manage, as there is repetition. What should I do, seperate notebooks for seperate subject? Stop jotting down daily? Do only monthly magazine? Which monthly magazine? there is like an armada of them out there. I mean all and every opinion is welcomed. It's just too confusing. Thankyou In advance

I guess the number of grammatical and auto correct mistakes in the deleted text should tell you how much i type/text.

A4 sheets is the way to go if you prefer offline notes. Maintain a separate folder for each subject and staple them month wise to keep them organised. If you’re doing daily note making you’ll find you have more relevant content compared to monthlies. When you read your monthly add and fill in the blanks where necessary. Try not to take more than 1-2 hours daily for this endeavour or else you’ll end up wasting time. There are even daily compilations if you wish not to go through a monthly magazine.

Haha

Insight ishko vhi easy kar diya hai, weekly magazine, they are providing

Targets 14/08/22

1. TIE + Notes

2. Lecture 2D (1)

3. Zoology - Biostats-Exp design + Null Hyp

4. EVS - Finish U8

5. Revision

Read the  Newspaper. So, targets for 15/08 remain the same.

Spent 5 hours helping my sister out with re evaluation formalities 🙂

Took a break yesterday. Aadha din jalebi khaane mein nikal gaya , wanted to watch a movie but ended up listening to songs.

Today was good. All targets except 4 done. Hopefully things will fall into place soon.

“Aadha din jalebi khaane m nikal gaya” sounds like a dream day for me 😂

Jalebi khana is not limited to khana but also jalebi khojna, acchi jalebi milna is an accomplishment 😂

You have turned jalebi into an art form 😂. Garam jalebi and thandi rabri is to die for after a plate of samosas 🥹

Ye duniya mujhe weight loss ni karne degi.  :(

Sigh.

Maine chhod diye aise sapne dekhna 😂

Good morning people!

I am done with all my back up exams, and I feel so relieved. Will be posting targets over here to build the momentum.

Day 1, 10.10.22-

1. Mrunal Pillar 4C

2. Eco Jan CA

3. Pride and Prejudice- 50 pages

4. Newspaper

5. Hit the bed by 11 so that I can start the day a little earlier from tomorrow

Also, please suggest a good source for environment. Followed Shankar previously but- one, it is not updated, and two, the content seems scattered.

Thanks in advance! 🌸

I have followed PMFias for Environment. Its a big bulky book around 500 pages , but I feel its lot more organised than shankar. Updated I think as well.

Red 🔴book for environment is also good.

Hello everyone. I don't know after how long i am writing something on forum. Kuch logon ko yaad honge;) Btw, I hope all of you are doing good.:)

Feb- June were pathetic months of my life and it got even more worse when results were announced, as i failed again. So, after giving two attempts i thought to take a break from preparation, and think about other alternatives, meanwhile i have decided to appear in CSE 2024( after analysing all my mistakes)

Currently, preparing for state pcs(UPPCS).

Also, have started doing Master's( Master in Sociology).

Kuch baatein hain, which i wanted to share with you guys. Personal level pe nothing was going good, nothing, thodi si cheezein sambhali hain abhi, but after a lot of destruction.

At one point of time, i was so frustrated that somebody asked me to attend  councelling sessions, and till now i attend these sessions. It really helps. It takes time, but eventually you start to feel good and positive.

Arey special mention to the most annoying/disrespectful people in this world  "Rishtedaar"( m#@..#@@@)un logon ne toh koi kami hi nahi baaki rkhi thi,  aur kahin galti se koi taunt reh gya toh wo ye taunt poora ke deta tha.."Arey aapka beta/ beti nikal lega/legi paper" iss dialogue se leke kya soch k aapke bete/beti ne ye preparation shuru ki".

Toh inn kuch mahino mein pta lga ki Supreme court wagarh mein judge toh faltu baithe hain, yahan toh har ghar har gali mein judge hain(without even required qualification).

Inn sab ka seedha asar dikha, health pe, relationship pe, padhai pe, but who cares(even i didn't care about all these and ended up destroying my own peace of mind)

Kabhi kabhi sochte hain ki "what a life it was" se "what kind of life is this" tak aane mein keval 2 saal aur 2 attempt lge.

Khair, baatein toh bahot hain but koi nahi, everybody is dealing with some issues. Nothing new..:)

Achi baat ye hai ki I am already feeling good. Acha lgta hai iss portal pe.  Also, kabhi waqt aur haalat ache hue toh will share some of the pictures I clicked.:)

And even if i am not appearing in CSE 2023, I will still be active here from now on.

Ek aur cheez, Novel padhne ka shaukh tha(college time mein) wo ab fir se shuru kiya hai. Toh agar kisi ko achi novel suggest krni ho toh please feel free to tell( Kindly DM).

Have a good day PEEPUL..❤️

Itna kyu sochtae ho? Even I am facing the similar things but I don't care about others except mom & dad.

Mere bare mai to whatsApp status par likh kai taunt martae hai 😄but I don't care man. Itna time hi nahi milta yar. But ha sabka whatsApp status ka screenshot leke rakhtae ja rahe one day I will share.

And one thing i would say ki, my decision of being off from all the social media Platform actually helped. , i was never on FB, INSTA, Anywhere except WhatsApp but now i don't have whatsapp also, only telegram.
You are absolutely right (the pointers you have given) Regarding information sharing,  i never share my feelings or any life event with anyone except few( some close peepul only) .

Hi peeps, I am once again asking for your advice.😅

How do you guys go about doing science and tech, environment for mains? Is the prelims knowledge sufficient?

  1. The Hindu
  2. Vision IAS Mains 365
  3. YouTube, Note--Whatever S&T, Environment topic you are learning, always focus on the concept, why is it in news, practical applications, potential threats, benefits far into the future etc. Just do this and you will easily handle this topic in the final exam.

Life update for all those kind souls who care about me : Not giving the exam this year. I am focusing on completing my LLB. Telling this because while we are in this preparation, it is so damn easy to forget that there exists a huge & beautiful world away from the civil services examination

Today, I am here as I thought of sharing some of my learnings as a lot of my friends have started shifting gears towards prelims prep. I felt a I should share my learnings with you all For that I need to give you all a background as well. Here we go :

I am someone who has failed prelims twice & also managed to clear prelims twice

2019 :I couldn't Crack it mainly due tolack of revision(didn't have short notes + obviously first attempt naiveness), blunders in Economics (Static part) & lack of what I call thestillness of mind. I attempted around 78 Questions & fell short by 4 marks

2020 :Attempted Vision tests + Revised throughly + Kept still during exam + Made short notes. I attempted 87 questions & cleared by a narrow margin of 2 marks

2021 :This was the attempt that pained me the most. This is where I was most prepared but still I choked. I was so shocked to see sports questions & I couldn't digest that questions were still so difficult for me despite putting in so much efforts. None of my friends & even I till this date cannot believe that I attempted only 68 questions. I fell short by 4 marks again. This is the attempt that made me realise about the need for a strong mental state and how "Losing your mind in the face of a crisis(here - shocking prelims paper) is a good way to become crisis itself"

Then began the roughest & the toughest phase of my life from Nov 2021 to June 2022. This year I decided to Join FORUM IAS test series & thoroughly analysed the PYQ. I realised medieval history including name of kings is bound to increase given the trend from 2020. Thus, I made short notes from Satish Chandra as well. This time, I didn't want to leave any stone unturned.

I focussed more on understanding & inquisitively thinking about things that appear. I used YouTube, watched a lot of documentaries to FEEL things. This time I also decided to completely ditch Vision (despite massive FOMO) . I just couldn't stand the dry language. Instead I relied more on PMF IAS Current affairs notes & Only IAS Videos. Another thing I focussed was on being anti fragile (concept by Naseem Taleb) & develop nerves of still. I gave all Forum tests at center & attempted Abhyas. While Vision did simulate UPSC in terms of toughness , I still found Forum SFG & Test series question, the most relevant. Vision's questions irritated me a lot. I still don't know why 😒

Again in this attempt, I could only attempt 81 questions. I had only one principle : I will not make anyrandom Tukkas (But do know that in my humble opinion - Prelims cannot be cleared without taking risks & making intelligent guesses. Hence I was satisfied with even 81 questions. As per keys, I was scoring around 102-106 and cleared the cutoff

While this was my journey, following are my learnings

1.Short notes + Revision: For me, it was impossible to revise anything without short notes. So if you believe you have time, please do invest on making smart & short notes
2.Practice for Randomness. After the COVID shock, countries are moving towards developing resilient economies. UPSC aspirants too need to develop anti fragility & resilience. This can only come by facing shocking papers. Then come back & analyse how you could've fared better. List those things down & try again
3.You MUST know what NOT to study. Prelims test series provide a lot of random stuff. You must learn to separate the chaff from the grain. I don't know how a new aspirant can develop this skill. But I believe this is a very very important skill and Seniors are able to do this very easily. They are able to eliminate the FOMO & still carry massive confidence
Also, I never studied any frog species that was discovered or random facts. I knew I won't be able to remember them. Hence eliminated them completely. I never focussed on Polity current affairs as UPSC has stuck largely to the static part only. For rest, I believed that TS would make for it
4.Method in madness :Develop a method & STICK TO IT TILL the end. Which test series you'll practice, how you'll Revise & how you'll analyse. Understand WHY are you practising or WHY you are reading a certain book/chapter. Once the objective is clear, your efficiency would increase a lot. For eg- I never focussed on making notes out of Vision Abhyas as I felt my only aim was to simulate & not develop content out of it especially it is held in April end & May. But with Forum & SFG (Till April), I did make notes
5.Do what works for you: Vision current never worked for me. I found it very very dry. Even for Mains, I couldn't stand the document (Still don't know why)

6. Study everything (especially biotechnology) withinquisitiveness & interest- In all my 4 attempts, this has always helped me solve some questions easily. Watch youtube videos to understand concepts (Discussed above too)

7.The last learning (for life& not prelims) that is very close to my heart is I began to appreciate ALL those around me who were putting their heart and soul in to the preparation . It didn't matter what score or what result they got or whether they would make it or not. I began to respect them solely for the efforts that they were putting in. I don't know how relevant this is for the exam. But whenever, I went to write Prelims test, I felt very very proud of all my peers who sat along with me, each going through their own struggles, and coming back test after test. Maybe some of us were not moving in the right direction but all of us fought like fierce warriors and that's what mattered !

At the end I would say : Feel free to ignore anything that you're not able to connect with. I am just posting this because a lot of peers messaged me that they had benefitted in some ways from some of my posts. Hence even if one of you benefits from this, I would be content. All the best to ALL OF YOU. Go get it this year ! 😁

P. S : Putting it here as I couldn't find the relevant Prelims thread. If there is separate thread, do let me know please.

One word@Ganesh_Gaitonde

Superb🙏

Some one please help me out: What are the most important topics in 12th Human geography (both NCERTs) and art and culture (from Nitin Singhania) ?

I have done new NCERTS and TN NCERT well, but remaining topics which need to be covered (Dances, music... ???)

For Human Geography :

1.The topics like population, resource distribution, agriculture, industries, transports and settlement are covered in sufficient depth.

Many objective types of questions can be framed on National Highways, Cropping seasons, Demographic attributes, resource distribution and so on. So, huge importance for prelims.

2.Similarly, the questions in the mains exam can be answered in better manner if one knows human aspects of geography.

It would help you to cover maximum dimensions in the mains answers.

For instance, if question asks about consequences of retreating of Himalayan glaciers, then that can be connected to failure of crops and issues with food security, sedimentation of rivers and frequent occurrence of floods, migrations of people from floodplains to hill, and so on.

All the best

Good luck 🤞to u.

Read it everyone :point_up_2:old is Gold

Reading the same old stuff again and again.

But if I learned something from the successful people around me – in the three decades of my yet lived life is –success is something that is achieved by doing the same things over and over again.

And your ability to succeed ( in life, If I may add ) depends on doing things that you do not like.

Nearly everyone reading this would love to read a new book, but how many would be willing to revise the same old book ?

#Motivation

Every story has three parts – a beginning, a middle and an end. This part of our story – is the middle.

And I can tell you that there are no worse regrets in life than to have a story that only has a beginning and an end. And no middle.

Bask in these times, even if they look difficult.

Because this part of your life – this one – is your middle.

Rise. Like little Napoleons.

And conquer the world.

Kyunki, Apna time aaega
