CSE 2022: Plan/ Strategy/ Daily Routine

Thank you@nerdfighter for this thing. We know we all are in this together.

I am filled with guilt, regret as well as the odd feeling of enthusiasm. I don't want to fall in the trap of self doubts. I know once I am in that it will be very difficult for me to come out of it. I want to move forward and look at the things which are in my control. I know where I lack and which things I should focus from now on. One clarity has been achieved, that is to have a backup.

Hard work pays off one day or other. Maybe luck did not favour us this time, but it is not like it won't favour us anytime. Let me do what I have in my control.

Tomorrow's target : For UPPSC

1. History PYQ - Last chapters - 1/3

2. Science and tech - Bio + physical portion - 1/3

3. Env - Pollution.

4. Random GK - from youtube, someone suggested that.

I am not sure if I will clear this, considering the time that is left, but if not this time, next time it will help.

P.S Sorry if you all find its too early to post this :)

@Patootie "At this point, for me, it is not even about the job for me. I want to clear the exam. It is as simple as that. It is an intensely personal struggle and it has been for at least the past 2 years. Good thing is, I finally feel that I can truly give my best again towards that goal."

I relate to that so much. Was expecting interview call at least, ended up getting the least marks so far. Confidence totally shattered. Started looking at other jobs and other exams. But eventually I realized if I run away now, I will regret it for the rest of my life. It may not be rational, and I don't know if it is right sort of motivation for becoming a good officer, but now I want to do it because I feel that I can't. When Livepool beat Barcelona 4-0 (after being defeated by 3-0 at Barcelona), Jurgen Klopp told the players before the match to either "win or fail in the most beautiful way". Now, I want to either clear the exam or at least come close. Won't run away before that.

"Won't run away before that" , "I run away now, I will regret it for the rest of my life"

Exactly my state :)

Some thoughts which occured to me today : Long read, please read at your own discretion.

1.Understanding and confronting your feelings- I was in a denial all this while . I felt that loosing prelims did not hurt me and its pretty normal. But it is not, I have been into preparation since 3rd year. A 2 year long journey where I have sacrificed many things, which I don't regret as it was my own choice. But somebody yesterday told me you must not be feeling sad unlike all of us because this is your first attempt whereas we all are in our second/third/fourth attempt. All my attempts to forget about my prelims came haunting me back. Feelings confronted me today and I couldn't control it much longer.

An unpredictable paper it was and I would not have worried much if it had gone bad , but I am standing somewhere close to 84-86, the thing that is haunting me is those 5 questions which I did wrong against the wishes of my gut feelings - water, pressure cooker, article 14, one history question and a eastern ghat river question. I am unable to come to terms that this is going to be the reason behind my failure in prelims.

Still I am trying, trying to shift my focus from this exam and the prelims failure and move on. Moving on seems hard at this point but this is the most I can do.

So to everyone reading this, confront your feelings, don't be in a denial and accept your feelings with open arms. Let this flow, because if you allow feelings to quell up, it would block the veins in your body, your heart and brain would stop working and you will react or over-react to things. In these two days, I got irritated pretty easily, shouted , screamed and cried. The more I tried to forget the more it came back haunting me making my life more difficult. Welcoming it with open arms would have been much easier.

2. To deviate my mind I watched Criminal Justice ( I know a little late) - One thing that struck me was UPSC chahe jitna bhi unpredictable ho, it actually offers you a lot to work. The situation in prison made me think why prisons are even created? Are they created for the purpose of punishment or for reforming the person? The prison where the guy aditya sharma was kept, was not reforming him but instead it created another monster from humans. The state of our prison is one of the worst in the world, we need urgent reform, for protecting and promoting the basic human rights of people. Unsanitary conditions, constant threat to life , politicisation of prisons and many more things. It just gave me one more reason to continue trying for this exam. Baaki as life would take, kuch nahin toh dhairya ki tarah NGO hi khol legen.

Friends, I need some help in making a dependable plan for 2022 attempt. I appeared in 2021. I had done basic books for prelims around 4-5 times. In few FLTs I gave, the maximum I scored was 84.

I've gone through my optional once but haven't done much of answer writing.

As of now, I'm thinking of being mains focussed till feb'22, and give last 3 months to pre'22.

I'm not sure about the number of months to be kept reserved for prelims at the end in my case.

Giving this year's paper, I felt even if I had given it one more month, I would have scored the same.

I need some guidance on this.@Neyawn  can you pls find a few minutes to help me on this.

Thanks!

@Neyawn I too feel the same. Like, I don't think a little more prep could have helped me in the exam. If I had given the paper in August end, I feel like I would have scored the same. So, should I still be giving 5 months on Prelims as you write?

I believe if I had written in June, it wouldn't have made much difference.

It was a slow start from my side, but went pretty well till evening.

Today's targets - Do what you have written in diary.

Woke up late for no reason. Guilt trip has already started.

Targets for 14/10/21

  •  10:45-12:45 Anthro
  •  1:15-2:30 Anthro
  •   4-6 : Ethics
  •  7:15-9:15 Answer Writing
  •  Extra- Read  50 pages of Sapiens before sleeping

ONLY 85 DAYS LEFT FOR MAINS.  TOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TO STUDY.. ..

Good luck to me and others who are struggling and studying !!

Schedule followed diligently till 6 pm, after which I had a panic attack.
Couldn't do answer writing..
I guess it will take a little bit more of perseverance to get into complete mains mode.
Satisfied overall with the quality of study..
Meanwhile, installed YPT app again on my phone. It is so nice to see a lot of people there now.  I'll be using the app again from tomorrow.

P.s: I saw the documentary "House of Secrets- The Burari Deaths" on Netflix, day before yesterday. I never thought I would say this, but I highly recommend you guys to watch it.. It is quite intense with all the original clippings, but has way too many layers than just a 'mass suicide'..   Highly recommend

About the documentary I would say when I first saw the trailer I couldn't keep myself away from reading about it , I must say, its emotionally drenching. How could a family with 3 generations could do something like this and no one opposes!

I would definitely watch it.

Knowing an extra language is always a plus :p

I think we are gonna end up making a part of this thread, Duolingo that no one asked for! XD

I think its all right to make this thread Duolingo. You're providing the translation as well.

Well, if knowing an extra language is a plus, then I have plus plus plus plus - as I know Assamese as well ( can understand), marathi , kuncham(little) punjabi, bihari , rajasthani, haryanavi.

I really don't want whole thread to be  monotonous with just targets of people. So yeah people, keep sharing stuff from life and do participate if your languages if you want to, it would be such a pleasure to learn all different languages.

Going to take a break from forum people, you have been very very supportive, maybe I just need time for settling this feeling that I might just not clear. I am trying and failing every time.

I am planning to finish UPPCS, then wait for pre results, and then see how I might go about preparation. I feel so lost at this moment. Anything I am trying isn't working.

To all, for your motivating messages I am very very grateful, I will be back but after conquering my emotions, being little more strong, focused and clear about how I would like to move forward.

All the very best everyone.

Good Morning people 🌞

Late start to the day. Targets: a)CA<3hrs b)AWP<3hrs c)Rest soc/gs/ncert

After a certain number of hours(variably 6-8), the focus intensity falls. In words of Cal Newport, you can't do deep work beyond 8 hours. But I think we must endeavour to push the boundaries through meditation+physical workouts+scheduling proper breaks. Hoping for good results on experimental Sunday.

Keep hustling everyone 🦾

Revision tuesday(23/11/21 Day#24) done.

Another week comes to an end. Was able to finish October Epic, few ncerts, 2 MGP, socio+GS mains issue notes partially. Fragmented effort. Lots of breaks and distractions. This will continue to the following week because of convocation BS😤 A senior once said, "you are pretty much done with iitk, I presume! iitk is far from being done with you though!" and the bureaucracy of an Indian college is hitting me hard with all it's ugly colours. Anyhow, will work around this: last week to do the substantial portion of humongous monthly goals.

Will try to finish big chunks of: a) ncerts b) mgp c) socio notes d) socio pyq(5Qs daily) e) gs-mains issues. Hoping for a focused week ahead to put some concerted effort. 🦉

Consistency where are you? Please come to me.

Struggling with consistency post the break I took, its just so hard to sit and study when you have seen how it feels to not study and enjoy little things of life, that slow life where things happen at their own pace.

But I guess life cannot move this way, you have to study. It sucks when you are not able to give it your all.  Cold is making it tough for me. I don't know where my immunity is gone, a little weather change and I become sick. Anyways whatever happens I need to gather myself tomarrow. Lets hope for a good day.

Strict schedules from tomarrow.

I will try to study whatever I could do now.

Try imagining yourself giving GS papers in January, one day later the actual exam. This will help you finish GS in a timebound manner and consistent efforts too.
That's what I tried to follow when failed in prelims last year.

It makes sense, that's the only way I could finish mains syllabus abhi or else 50 days would be of total waste. Kal se all directed towards completing the syllabus of mains till Mains 2021.

Thanks :)

Ah Well, everyone talking! I should make my presence felt too.

Sorry for not posting regularly, but schedules are being followed daily. Trying as much as I can to return to the same productivity levels as I used to be before prelims.

As Augustya said, what's done is done, what we have is the time now and we must wisely use that one or else failing ( if we want to say that) is what we would have for ourselves.

December month has finally come, aim is completing GS + Optional. Lets see where we go!!

Guys, please suggest a good source for ethics. want to complete it in 10-15 days.

You can go with ethics red book by forum. Its crisp with all the topics covered and with some very good examples to quote here and there and would take less time as well.

Apart from that if you lack understanding over any topic then use google for better understanding and you would be good to go.

@DrishtiPoint Hey, welcome back! Hope things are fine for you now :) Waiting for you to write those targets and then ticking them off ! :)

How are you guys going about essay preparation? Is it better to start preparing it right now or is it better to build content in GS first and then practice essays? What do you guys think?

This time is time for mains prep is very less or say negligible hence right now focusing only on GS and optional, while I think for essay at least one of the essays could be written with the GS prep and the other its all about your interpretation and presence of mind and thereby nobody could do any specific preparation.

So essay baad mei, abhi Just GS and Optional.

If you want to do then you can go with reading topper's essay to get hold of frameworks etc , I think thats what could be done.

After an unfruitful week(thanks to LinkedIn making me question myself for one whole week) am ready to get back on track. Looking forward to meet the targets and see you guys on YPT.  Have a productive and satisfying week ahead.

Logging in LinkedIn during prep days is nerve-racking!  Those long and fancy list of achievements in profile would make us question ourselves again and again.

Have a great week ahead!

Chandra Shekhar : Last Icon of Ideological Politics.

Seeing the title of book, PSIR peeps may get intrigued and bring in End of Ideology Thesis xD. Perhaps that was the time when ideology was cherished and ideological conviction was treasured.

It was a wonderful excerpt, amazed by the personality he was, the way he communicated and definitely want to read more about him.

I guess I am also in the same phase of days dark and nights darker, but I guess its getting better with time.

I guess when one keeps going, days do start becoming brighter. Each day is a new struggle, mentally and physically. Its same for all of us.

Take your own sweet time, give your mind the rest it deserves, give it time to heal if something's bothering and then get back to work. All the best.

About sharing stuff one thing has been bothering me since a long, want to just share - So after our ex-CJI released his book, saw his interviews. I was astonished by the way he communicated, he was aggressive and offensive, we just don't expect people from such high positions to communicate in this manner. Anyways that's not bothering.

So I decided to read about the sexual harassment case, and not just going by whether the allegations were true or not, what bothered me was the way it was handled. The woman was denied lawyer to represent her, there were no external members, the proceedings taken forward without the participation of the victim and of course the verdict was given. There was just one member who objected to women not being the part and that was Justice D.Y Chandrachud ( he gives me hope, some of his recent judgements are my favourite, I remember smiling once while reading his judgement, as he just gave me hope, that things could be better, can't remember the case though)

The below article mentions that, after refusing advances of the Gogoi, the woman did not ring the bells immediately and at the right time, she did it after her husband and brothers-in-law were were removed from their job. Why were all of that happening at the same time? She removed from her job, then her husband and their her brothers-in-law. What struck to me was that A man's ego was so hurt with that refusal of advances that he had just tried to destroy the life of the powerless woman? If male ego is such deep rooted and seen even in men of that stature and position, being highly educated, then what can we expect from the normal people?

The issues is in conditioning of child, parents refuse things children ask more so if they are men, they think its their right to ask things and get things. When they get a NO, they are not used to it, and then we see what we see all day.

Yeah, too much of ranting, but it was there. I hope we make this place a safe space for women soon!

Reminds me something..I think we have a similar point here..was having  a conversation with one of my friend last year..I asked him "Why male ego is so deep routed that it leads to such disastrous outcomes like gangrape.. workplace harrasment.. domestic violence etc"..??

I wanted to explain him..that there is a common thread among males..and that is habit of "ना नहीं सुन ना है"..I hope you people remember..When I was not active for 4-5 days.. completed a series named." MINDHUNTER" ..it actually proves my point..(EGO PROBLEM)

And you are right..what will we expect from normal people if the so called "Educated elites" holding such strong position will behave in such absurd manner..! People think the same as what is shown to them..! Nobody wants to understand anything on grassroot level..

I don't remember exactly..but there was a column in magazine (THE HINDU)..A lady(I guess from BBC or may be an Indian Author) she went to these guys and asked..why rape happens or what is the mentality (even if you will be punished) so one of them replied.." गुस्सा आता है जब औरते ना बोलती हैं। हमे आदत नही है ना सुन ने की." I thought ohh haan(since childhood if you will see the same thing happening with your mother and sister you will be exactly the same)and "CHANGE" is not the new normal..:)

Sorry people..have written a lot..I know..:)

Sorry sorry..But  Actually saw the post and it reminded me of the conversation I had with my friend... Although the conversation was so long( and proved my point also) but still have so many ques..

Bahot zyada likh diya hai..:)

Forgot to mention.. Honourable DY Chandrachud (literally have changed the image of CJI) he really gives us hope of a better judicial system and better judgements( and he is on the way..)

There are few judgements which actually deserves a huge round of applause..:)

Agreed totally!

I think we as society, need rethinking. I don't know if even its possible because we ourselves are product of such conditioning and somewhere deep down the same blood and thinking flows and we might just do same or close to it. This needs to change.

And don't be sorry saying it was too long or anything else, I am happy we are able to start a conversation around these topics and moving on from a monotonous routine of posting routines.

Of course , he will be our CJI in future, can't just wait for that. After having some bad experiences with CJI's, particularly the last 3-4, from CJI Ramana I am seeing some change. Hopefully trend continues, independence of judiciary secured and rights protected.

Looking forward for some more fruitful discussion guys! :)

P.S - I have another topic for discussion, would be posting tomarrow.

Totally agree with what you have written about Justice Gogoi. The NDTV interview was such an eye opener although it was out there in the open since long time, to see him give voice to it and confirm everything that was said, is shocking.  I think it is fitting that privilege motion has been moved against him in the RS.

Nemo judex in causa sua -No one should be a judge in their own case is one of the basic principles.  Convened a special bench and headed it himself ?How intimidated the woman must have been in those proceedings ? Why does the procedure allow for this to happen even ? No, we are not going into the merits of the case here. The procedure was definitely problematic. Can nothing be questioned because it might undermine the independence of judiciary ?

Join you all in looking at Justice Chandrachud with hope. Whenever I am bored of studying from the book, I listen to his speeches. They are well articulated and sensitive towards the marginalised sections.

An excerpt from one of his speeches -

"The film(The Great Indian Kitchen) charted out the compounding indignities that the bride faced in unpaid and thankless labour that was exerted in domestic chores and cooking. The denial of her ambitions to work a job of her choice, and finally, the harsh isolation and associated untouchability when menstruating. The movie poignantly engaged with the news of the Supreme Court judgment and juxtaposed it with the livid reality of this woman who was not asserting. She was not asserting the right to go on the pilgrimage but was fighting a much deeper battle as her existence was diminished by her gender. This is a stark reminder for how mere legislative or judicial intervention does not automatically upend the inequities that are entrenched in our society."

I would recommend this Malayalam film if you haven't watched it yet. It was so close to reality that I had tears in my eyes in many instances.

Great Indian kitchen has been one of my favourite movies, loved it! I remember how with each passing scene of seeing the woman in the kitchen, I grew more and more irritated and empathetic at the same time. With every detail whether eating food on dining table, to the leakage problem to that worst part during menstruation I grew a lot irritated, my anger towards the boy and his family knew no bounds. It made me angry, sad and empathetic at the same time.

Now that it's getting interested..why can't we discuss few topics on a regular basis or on every alternate day..!!

Any issue..be it current or may be any sociological issue.. anything.. atleast it will be better and there will be a change also..from our normal routine..! We all should interact and share our views in a limited manner jisse padhai ka time bhi save ho and discussion bhi ho..

And btw..I always think to say this to you all..

Healthy discussion should be started on this thread..!

I agree with you..:)

It isn't like topics, rather its your mind. You feel something has impacted you just say it here. We all are here to listen. The above one impacted me a lot, so yeah, speak your mind.

Justice Chandrachud in an absolute nerd-crush of mine. This is one Justice Chandrachud quote that I had kept in my notes for the clarity and freshness in his writing. This is from BK Pavithra-II case. A breath of fresh air on the discourse of Merit and Efficiency.

“Article 335 cannot be construed on the basis of a stereotypical assumption that roster point promotees drawn from the SCs and STs are not efficient or that efficiency is reduced by appointing them.  This is stereotypical because it masks deep rooted social prejudice.  The benchmark for the efficiency of administration is not some disembodied, abstract ideal measured by the performance of a qualified open category candidate.   Efficiency of administration in the affairs of the Union or of a State must be defined in an inclusive sense, where diverse segments of society find representation as a true aspiration of governance by and for the people.

Our benchmarks will define our outcomes.  If this benchmark of efficiency is grounded in exclusion, it will produce a pattern of governance which is skewed against the marginalised.  If this benchmark of efficiency is grounded in equal access, our outcomes will reflect the commitment of the Constitution to produce a just social order.

Hence, while interpreting Article 335, it is necessary to liberate the concept of efficiency from a one sided approach which ignores the need for and the positive effects of the inclusion of diverse segments of society on the efficiency of administration of the Union or of a State.   Establishing the position of the SCs and STs as worthy participants in affairs of governance is intrinsic to an equal citizenship.   Equal citizenship recognises governance which is inclusive but also ensures that those segments of our society which have suffered a history of prejudice, discrimination and oppression have a real voice in governance.   Since inclusion is inseparable from a well governed society, there is , in our view, no antithesis between maintaining the  efficiency of administration and considering the claims of the SCs and STs to appointments to services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union or of a State.”

“Administrative efficiency is an outcome of the actions taken by officials after they have been appointed or promoted and is not tied to the selection method itself. The argument that one selection method produces officials capable of taking better actions than a second method must be empirically proven based on an evaluation of the outcomes produced by officials selected through both methods.

Arguments that attack reservations on the grounds of efficiency equate merit with candidates who perform better than other candidates on seemingly “neutral” criteria, e.g. standardised examinations. Thus, candidates who score beyond a particular “cut-off point” are considered “meritorious” and others are “non-meritorious”. This is a distorted understanding of the function “merit” plays in society.

A “meritorious” candidate is not merely one who is “talented” or “successful” but also one whose appointment fulfils the constitutional goals of uplifting the members of the SCs and STs and ensuring a diverse and representative administration.”

Should be just have a Justice DY Chandrachud Fanclub here? So many of us have nerd-crush on him.

Agreeing totally about finding Gogoi disgusting. He had the audacity to actually justify all his wrongs. One shouldn't be surprised. About his accepting of RS seats being one of them. He wanted to work for Assam and Judiciary, but how? By sitting at home, following covid protocols at home and attending just 6 session because doctors advised him so. Okay!

I thought I was being crazy when I saw hope for Indian judiciary in Justice chandrachud and Justice NV Ramana. His proactive role during covid crisis pulling up the delhi govt and centre. I used to go crazy talking about these people with my friends.

You gave it a name instead of craziness- Nerd Crush it is xD

Even I thought its just me. I absolutely loved him for his judgements, Like I used to look forward to his judgements. About CJI NV Ramana, see his recent comments on sedition law. The way he talks about politicisation of judiciary. High hopes!

One of my other favourites has been Justice Madan B Lokur. He is retired , still sometimes listen to his debates, just to get that hope, that things will be fine, one fine day.

@sstarrr The movie was just great. Menstruation part was hitting close home . It is not just the men who play a role in patriarchy, women take the lion's share in continuance of such practices. How many of us would have seen or been taught the notion of pollution during menstruation by mothers, aunts, and grandmothers ? Don't enter the kitchen, don't touch the pickle jars, don't water the plants. Why plants ? Will they die if a menstruating woman waters them? In villages, there is usually a separate unhygienic room for women to stay during periods just like the movie depicted.

Spoke my mind. Looks like we need a Justice Chandrachud fan club here. I learned a new word today , nerd-crush. Count me in if anyone creates it!

Yeah, couldn't agree more! We all have in our lifetimes have been subjected to these rules. The rules of purity and pollution are the reason behind discrimination cutting across caste and gender. And you said correctly women have lion's share in deepening patriarchy, but as I said its conditioning and its spread across generation. They act in that way because they have been fed with the similar thoughts, which they pass on to next generation.

The only way this could be countered is by questioning the relevance of it, which in some ways our generation is doing.

I was taken aback by the recent controversy surrounding CBSE english paper. Teenage years are crucial years which help shape our thinking and actions, and then putting such a passage and including an option as "the writer said that in light hearted tone" is so stupid! Already lots of shortcomings in our education system, along with such negligence, what are we aiming at?

The passage meant that 'emancipation of wife in family destroyed parent's authority over child'. "Feminist revolt" reason behind teenagers ruining their lives. Okay!

@BelieveIT  This is tough for everyone, it takes time, a lot of time, the more you were attached the more you will take time.

1. It takes time, a lot of time and energy from you. Give that, don't push yourself, don't rush. Dhire dhire hoga.

2. Talking helps, talk to anyone you find will listen to you, tell them how you feel . Sometimes just start talking to people, not about your past, but just talk about normal stuff. Reconnect with the lost connections, talk to them. Do this for a while, you will stop feeling lonely and alone ( I have my best friend and one more person from this community, who helped me through this, and when you find those people, never leave them)

3. Try something new, do something new - Read books, play sports, start going out, spend time with family, follow anything you like, it diverts your mind.

4. Rather than developing hatred for that person, for whatever reason they left, just let them go. Just think there must be some reason why they left you, respect their choices and move on. A respectable letting go makes a lot of difference. The more you hate that person for leaving you, the more you will be hurt.

5. Daru option nahin hai as Jiraiya said. You feel good for just some time but hmesha ke liye nahin. So, don't do that.

That's all yaar! And you want to talk to someone, just ping me! Would listen with no judgments, I know how it feels.

God, the way journalistic standards have fallen in our country! Reduced to become mere mouthpieces of a particular political party/ideology they adhere to. Precisely the reason I appreciate the way Srinivasan Jain conducted the interview with the ex CJI. Asking all the right questions that someone had to ask him.

Was watching some of the Newslaundry videos, thanks for the recommendation . Where was it all this while, how am I finding this so late ! They are hilarious, sarcastic while also dealing with some of the pressing issues in media and the world with responsibility which we seek from the mainstream channels.

Yeah! I used to see them a hell lot of time in my Youtube feed, never paid heed and then one day, just saw it and I was so happy finding this thing. All their programs are so good ( There is one more called tippani - its in Hindi)  including their journalistic reports. You want to know about some issues, read from their website. Its a gem!

Should we even call these people journalist? They seem to be spokesperson of a party to me and ofcourse manipulators , sometimes I feel they are more hurt than Sambit when something about BJP is said.

Haven't followed politics or mainstream journalism for a while, but couldn't stop getting sucked into this discussion.

I remember some person exhorting students to sever India's North East at an anti CAA protest meeting (don't remember his name. Sharjeel Usmani probably). Watch that video. Then, watch Ravish Kumar's NDTV news story on this incident. He smartly crops the video in the beginning, which entirely changes the essense of that statement.

Then there was Modi's reference to 'Abki baar Trump Sarkaar' at an event with Trump. Hindu, IE, NDTV carried opinion pieces on how this statment threatens bipartisan consensus in US on good relations with India. Yet, anyone who listens to Modi's statement, and is aware of Trump's use of that slogan in 2016 would understand that Modi's statement was in past tense. He wasn't endorsing Trump at all.

My point being, Ravish Kumar, NDTV, Newslaundary (AAP's pimps), etc are competent and manipulative crooks, who are adept at hiding their bias. Those at ZeeNews, IndiaTV, Dainik Jagran etc are incompetent crooks. Their bias is as visible as daylight.

With ZeeNews et al you know you are being served bullcrap. With NDTV et al, you get sucked into the bullcrap they are selling, and form opinions you wouldn't have otherwise formed, if you had access to a neutral primary source.

I believe this isn't a fair comparison. These are two extremes. I do agree, that Ravish has left leaning, and its similar to that of DNA by Sudhir, but then he is not always manipulating,  and spreading his venomous propaganda. And I have always believed that journalist should not do these things. Work of journalist should be to describe a situation to the larger audience without letting his own views in it, like done by newspapers ( not the columns). So what is being done by Ravish and Sudhir, both are wrong, but sudhir is more wrong. The venom that is being spread by Sudhir and likes is so so harmful that we must not realise abhi, but it has disastrous consequences.

And when you call the Newslaundry and likes of them as Pimps and all, I think you should have a look at their reports, I might agree that they might support that party, they would have leaning, but that is not reflecting in their journalism. If you read their reports describing events and issues, you don't find a leaning, you listen to just incidents and that's what matters.

Hello everyone,

Been dealing with some issues from a long time. Just recently came across this platform on forum to discuss various things about the preparation. So I'm sharing it with this hole that somebody might suggest something useful. I'm based at home doing cse prep. So have exhausted two attempts couldn't clear prelims this time was scoring around 85. Done with the syllabus too for the core subjects ,but didn't had a mains oriented approach so haven't done much answer writing and also haven't done my optional very well too.

But my problem isnt any of this. You see I came to this preparation about 2 years back because of my parents will but then I worked hard from my side too but I feel suffocated sometimes not just sometimes but quite a lot. Last year during covid when the libraries got shut I was in this huge depression...alone...nobody in my family to understand my problems...even suicidal...that was for 2-3 months basically that was a huge loss to me..for my prep. I came out of it through medications and other self help methods. Since then have tried to not fall back to that place. But every      and then I start to slip in that zone especially when the results are not showing. I have quite a conservative family which won't let girls live outside home etc. I gave up a job after Btech and every now and then that decision bites me of what I have got myself into basically giving up the independence I could have had. Its this feeling of despair and suffocation that kills me sometimes especially when the journey seems neverending.

My apologies for sharing this rather negative post in here. This might feel like I'm overexaggerating things but I've been dealing with this since a long time and no matter how hard I try to just study and not think of the results...sometimes it becomes really overwhelming.

Hey, just two cents apart from all this - Take your stand always in front of your family. Its difficult I know, but it has to be done kabhi na kabhi. It is required.

And let go of your past and your job, there are plenty of oppurtunities there in the world, take them. Write different exams and try getting out of the situation you're in because that's the only way.

About depression - medication + meditation.

Try enjoying the process, make friends within family which might include your mother, brother-sister and sometimes show them how you feel, if you're angry let them know, let them not have absolute control over you and your emotions.

I use 5 rupaye wala pen (Yes this is how I define pens... With price). I think it's Linc Maxo. Earlier I was using Reynolds.

That's exactly me, that's how I even define my pens. My pens don't have name or company, they are just 3 rupaye wale pen.

My reasons for using them have been : They are very very smooth and slim. I have difficulty in writing with pens which are way too thick like V7 and hence 3 rupaye wale pen.

I have been a great fan of goldex delta(use and throw type pen). Lately however I started using V7 initially it was tough fixing grip and finding speed but slowly my hand got used to it.

The thing is V7 has dark impression and curves of letter are clear also there is consistency in flow throughout the paper.

Use and throw type pen vary in shade. Starts lighter grows darker then again light.

In the conclusion, content is the king types of pen hardly matters.

Yes! That's why I am always confused with this whole discussions over pen. Content is the king..!

I found it on the easier side, but conceptual. Had no revision of all subjects, so did not attempt all questions. Passage questions were as always confusing for me.

After reading passage I was like is my English so poor, kuch samaj nahin aa Raha hai. After that I did not even read the second passage

As usual I found polity, economy and surprisingly history on the easier side while env, science were bouncers for me.

After a lot of thinking, I have come up with some strategy which would work for me, as I really needed something called a 'strategy' to get myself back to work. I have always been someone who used to put some good number of hours , but then these 2 months haven't been good with respect to putting good number of hours, but work was anyhow done.

Now I want to focus both on work and the number of hours I put. I don't know If I will be able to stick but just as a new year resolution kind of thing I might just try my best to follow.

Targets for tomarrow :

1. CA class backlog - 2 and half

2. Mains topics - Try finishing all peripheral ones

3. Prelims Preparation

Can't explain how I am feeling right now. This is the last day of the year, it wasn't a good year as I had planned, but it taught me so many lessons which in hindsight I think were neccessary. You can't always succeed in life in whatever you do, sometimes you do need some failures to understand the cruel reality of this world.

This was the year I understood about importance of mental health, support system that you require in this journey, care that one must take of oneself, how impt it is to indulge in what you like to remain sane and most importantly to live life.

I am just wishing the coming year brings happiness to all of us, we all get what we desire, keep ourselves happy and live life :)

Good day everyone!

@sbhati Hey, I agree with Titanium that there's already a lot on our plate, but I think the thread that titanium has created , you can post one question daily or so and we all who were active on that thread would try to answer, if and as we get time. I think that would help as with SFG going, we all are really busy and hence dedicated answer writing is a problem but we can of course write answers on the thread according to our own convenience.

After prelims sure! It would be great, I have seen some really good answers by you guys :)

Now that my idols@Steph_Curry and@LetsGetThisBread have started posting on this thread, it's time I follow in their steps too. So I will be posting my targets on this thread to give some direction to the otherwise unproductive bouts of random study sessions I am doing currently.

Here are my targets for 2/2/2022:

2) Geography(finish climatology)

3) International relations( Book reviews)

Again optional was neglected. I don't think now with such hectic schedule I will be able to do optional.

Have been trying reading a book called Desperately seeking Shahrukh : India's lonely young women..... , but not getting enough time. Seems like a book worth reading and will have to squeeze time for it. Didn't do magazine as well.

Yesterday's midnight session was pretty awesome.

Hello everyone!
I am posting something here after about 1.5 years. Left preparing for UPSC 2021 last year, skipped prelims, tried to work a bit more on optional (math), and giving the exam this year (2022).
Got to revise static portion quickly, and take a lot of mock tests, to avoid repeating the mistake I made in 2020 pre. Any advise on my daily routine/targets will be welcome, and I thank you in advance for showing concern for me.

Today's target -

100 pages of Modern India (Spectrum) - Dunno whether will be able to complete this till 3 am, till now I have done only 15 pages :(

Hey, I am so glad to see you back. I remember you from the CSE 2021 thread where you posted regularly.

Welcome back :)

I am scoring around 105-120 in GS-1 according to various keys, but I think CSA dubayega. I feel soo soo bad right now that it couldn't be expressed in words. CSAT is getting tougher and I feel so fucked up right now. Agar clear ho jata hai mata ke darbar mei matha tekhna sure sure hai. Abhi toh yeh soch rhi hun neend kaise aayegi..soun kaise ab?

I was happy with GS and I think CSAT dekhna hi nahin chayeih tha. Anyways will try sleeping. Kal try kregen to enjoy this time with family.

@sstaarr Wow that is a wonderful score in GS-1, especially considering the type of paper it was.

Don't worry too much about CSAT till the official result comes in. Private ones tend to have a lot of mistakes. Also, just wondering - how did you find the comprehension passages this time around? Maths was tougher this time I know.

I have attempted maths and reasoning jyda this time. I found passages easier than 2021 because in 2021 I knew I was struggling with them. Having difficulty in comprehending them. This time this was not the case. I just hope Passages save me. Although I do think the option framing was on a little tougher side and for sure not so easy.

Hello good people of forum,

Feeling a little overwhelmed with all the work that needs to be done. Could anyone suggest a few blogs/videos to look at? I'm primarily worried about the GS1,2 and 3 papers. Apart from this, just want to fine tune my own strategy and ensure I don't miss out on anything.

Also, if the old timers recall we had whatonly write a wonderful post after her selection last year. Could anyone attach the link to that?

Thanks a lot!

I will DM you the blog link tomorrow. I had read it but did not bookmark it and hence have to ask her.

And tum yeh kar skate ho. Just finetune your strategy, make a list of all sources, test series wagera sab. And stick to that. Good luck yaar :)

Hi guys!

IN this time. Was scoring 100+ in GS and 58.75  in CSAT from 3 keys. Now that scared the shit out of me and I couldn't utilise all these days and was just preparing myself mentally for the worst. Lekin when the result came, hopefully I cleared. Isse yeh seekha tha never trust CSAT keys, bahut hi important days waste karwa sakte hai. And mentally fuck up bhi kr sakte hai. Now just 85 days remaining will give my best shot!

All the best everyone ♥️

Out. I was scoring 95+ in paper 1, according to various answer keys. It’s probably because of CSAT.

I had wildest of dreams like I’ve reached wrong centre, forgot to take pen with me, something wrong with admit card/ I-card, not able to recall anything in the exam hall etc. But never had it occurred in my wildest of dreams that I won’t be able to clear CSAT.

Even remember telling someone, it’s a sin not to qualify in csat if someone is an engineer. I have committed that sin this time.

In retrospect, I think it was inevitable, given that I didn’t attempt even a single CSAT paper.

All the best to all those who have cleared the prelims.

Hey! This makes me really sad. I have seen you working so hard from the SFG days, in our SFG calls and everything. I remember your answer as well which you wrote on one of the threads because of which I was in total admiration of your writing skills.

And I know how it feels to be out because of CSAT. All these days I was believing that CSAT was a deal breaker and I was already out. But haan, for you I can say success will come your way. Thoda late hoga par ayega. All the very best dude :)

I feel settled in this place now, loving it amidst all the chaos.  Having good time. And being mentally happy and fine reflects in your study as well. I am able to concentrate more and happy while I am studying.
