CSE 2022: Plan/ Strategy/ Daily Routine

Hi friends, it’s good to be back on forum after long. Seeing familiar names from YPT gives me positive vibes. My huge respect to all pursuing their dreams passionately and sorry for all the unsolicited wake ups.

Our celebrations at home for holy festival of Maha Shivaratri have started. Lord Shiva has huge symbolic significance in my life. My father sahab has named me after him. We consider this festival as new year. So taking resolution in this holy week, I am promising myself to post daily targets here and review them every night for 21 days.

Past few days had been productive, however my preparation is never plan based. I pick up topics based on mood. Over time, it leads to nowhere. So this time, lets do it in planned manner.

Targets for Feb 28 (day 1)

- Meditation 1/2

- Prelims (last year’s geography and polity mocks - let’s see how many can be revised and if doing it is fruitful) (6)

- PT (newspaper, transcripts, one current theme topic) (4)

- Meditation 2/2

Looking forward to a good start !

Not as much a good day as much I planned it inside out. Entire February, I worked on GS Mains. Now switching to Pre and PT will take some resistance.

- Morning meditation done, evening one missed.

- Prelims (I started with Polity previous year mocks, found them intimidating for the reason that its been long I have looked at Laxmikant. So switched to the text book, did two chapters) (1)

- PT (newspaper done, travelling transcripts done, CA theme - caste census done) (6)

Targets for March 1 (day 2)

- Prelims (Spectrum 1/4) (4)

- CSAT (PYQ) (3)

- PT (newspaper, CA theme - Strategic autonomy) (3)

- Meditation 2x

Lets start this March very well ✌️

One of the good days to start a new month. However, the old habit of picking up subjects based on mood and not bidding them good bye after allotted time won’t go easy.

Reviewing now - Meditation (done, will resume dairy writing from now on). Spectrum (just 1 hour) Csat (didn’t start) PT (did newspaper and Hijab controversy issue)

Targets for March 2 (day 3)

1. Meditation 2x; DW

2. Prelims - Spectrum (1)

3. Mains - PSIR 2B contemporary developments (5)

4. PT - newspaper, transcripts on travelling, IR (4)

Let’s carry on the good momentum ✌️

I’ll count it as a good and productive day. Couldn’t study as many hours, but the day was indeed different in the breed and self assuring. I feel more confident about life this way.

Reviewing now - almost everything done except Spectrum and DW. Past couple of days had been disproportionately spent on PT, primarily because of associated excitement about new things and optimism biasness 3.0, but now would be more pragmatic in coming days. Would take in Pre full and PT less day for some days.

Targets for March 3 (day 4)

1. Meditation; Diary Writing

2. Spectrum (complete revising underlined notes in the book) + something more

3. Newspaper

Looking forward to thoughtful thursday !

Looking forward to thoughtful thursday !

Just another average day. One friend here has shared a very meaningful line. Things dont just happen on their own, they are made to happen. Very much soothing to read it after day long efforts.

Reviewing now, Spectrum would take couple of more hours. Diary Writing yet again pending. Will plan this tomorrow on priority basis.

Targets for March 4 (day 5)

1. Meditation 2x; Diary Writing

2. Complete Spectrum, shift to Laxmikant

3. Newspaper, CA topic - Online Gaming.

Will ensure good enough study before Lunch. We will make it count !

1. Meditation 2x, DW

Monday was indeed colorful. Long live such days !

First half was lethargic. Picked up the pace in the second half. Towards the end, I watched MEA media briefings on Operation Ganga in their youtube channel. I believe IFS is very much a professional service. Even with limited resources at hand, they are doing things really well. All previous Evacuation Missions have enriched confidence in our Diaspora.

Reviewing now - Laxmikant challenge made it a long day. Considerable portions done, what is left, we will read after couple of weeks. Everything else done, missed the Cleaning Meditation though.

Targets for March 8 (day 9)

1. Meditation 2x, DW

2. Pre - Note making from Previous Year’s Mock tests of Polity; CSAT 2021 Paper

3. PT - transcripts on Home State turned UT, CA Topic - Operation Ganga

I also have some outdoor work in the evening, will try to clock in good hours of study somehow.

Looking forward to another good day in the week, kar ke dikhayenge !

Today was another healthy day. Generally for past couple of years, I have been restraining most of the temptations and do not easily submit to going with the flow. Today I made a little break. Since everyone around is discussing what a good movie The Kashmir Files is, hence I could not stop myself watching it. Truly a masterpiece, yahi sach hai.

Reviewing now - Meditation missed, PSIR untouched. PT done. Also watched Rajan’s interview with Karan Thapar. I personally do not subscribe to his views. Would sleep little less to compensate for the entertainment part.

Targets for March 14 (day 15)

1. Meditation 2x, DW

2. PT - newspaper, CA topic, transcripts.

3. PSIR 1B - revision.

Let’s start this new week with high josh !

Meditation

U can do anytime man

Is it necessary to do in the morning🌞?

Mere sath vhi aisa hota morning mai generally nahi ho pata

I do generally  @ 2 am or 3 am jab padh kai uthta hu.

Yes, definitely it can be done anytime. I have been following Daaji’s Heartfulness Meditation for past couple of months on udemy app. He recommends doing it thrice. Meditation in the morning, Cleaning after day off, prayer before bed time. I’m also more comfortable in the evening.

U r doing thrice a day?

No friend. He suggest doing Morning Meditation and Evening Cleaning for 25 min each. Prayer for 5 min.

All I do is max 10-12 min each for Morning And evening one. I skip the Prayer. This much time is too much for me at present. In august last year, I was at the peak of my meditation cycle. 20 min uninterrupted very easily and smooth.

How do you do, please share, any good observation or learning.

Calling it a day, too early today. Will watch some movie. This sudden news of upcoming result would take time to sink in. Won’t fake it, but i am as much nervous as much I am excited.

Reviewing now - meditation resumed, Stock Exchange missed, Jammu Kashmir considerably done. My love for the land has ensured i went too much in depth and not dimensions. Will correct it in coming days. Below average day overall.

Targets for March 17 (day 18)

1. No plans as of now, would post by night what all I did.

Good luck dostoen, may tomorrow be a good day !

PS - I will write two letters to self. One tonight, another tomorrow night. Will keep both of them confidential.

Today was not a good day. Flunked in Mains once again. Doing it consecutively is not ordinary. It’s extra ordinary. This entire cycle has been very much confusing for me. Clearing prelims effortlessly, flunking in mains with efforts. I shall work on changing orientation towards Mains, and it will take time. Will ensure good enough answer writing practise. Meanwhile, some of my best friends have cleared this stage, I am just so happy for them and family.

Reviewing now - watched some random stuff here and there, nothing concrete. Watched a movie just now - The Lunchbox, could relate very well.

Targets for March 18 (day 19)

1. No major targets as such - my father sahab has planned to take me somewhere on a short vacation, i am just very curious.

2. Will look towards psc mains, limited days are left, limited choices are left.

Haar nahi maanenge. A battle is lost, war still remains.

Not a good day, and i am sure more such days are awaiting. Ajeeb si mohabbat ki hai upsc ne mere saath, kabhi khushi kabhi gham.

But today was special for some other reasons. Today marked the 21st day of promise made to self regarding posting here and reviewing them without a break. I will continue this exercise, but won’t promise it this time. Promises should not be made on little casual things, let the words uttered weigh significant trust and faith.

Reviewing now - saw some topper copies of PSIR ; meditation missed.

Targets for March 21 (day 22)

1. Meditation 2x

2. PSIR - good copies, 2A

This was not a good week. Expecting a V shaped recovery in subsequent days.

Another good day. All credit goes to unprecedented date sheet of jkas exams. Studying these days is too much efforts taking. Generally, it has been a fight against time, now it’s a fight against self.

Reviewing now - the mock test I wrote in 3 shifts with cumulative time of 4 hours +. Not good. 50% revision of GS 3 round 1 done, 50% left.

Targets for April 5 (day 37)

1. GS 3 complete somehow and write one mock test

2. Meditation 2x

I’m well aware targets for tomorrow would drain all residual energy from me. But if not now, when ?

Finally done with ut psc mains. To be honest, studying in the past two weeks had been very gruesome. But Neyawn Sir has rightly written once, we suffer more in imaginations than in reality.

Today also marks the 50th evening of posting targets over here. This thread has inspired me the most in these otherwise challenging days. Thank you all, you people are best.

Targets for April 19 - 23 (day 50 - 54) - on break. There is a long list of non study work that has piled up.

Regarding upsc, with month long deliberations and conscious choice making, I have decided to skip cse 2022 this year. I have flunked in mains thrice by now, and to be honest I am not able to gauge where things are going wrong after last attempt. This jkpsc also kept me busy and time to prepare for prelims has gone. Most likely, taking a break would give much needed introspection for mains. I repeat, neither giving up nor moving on, but just delaying success by a year.

Planning to stick to this thread for coming months. Would appear in some non upsc exams and finally switch to upsc post monsoon.

To all those appearing in cse 2022, please keep putting in all your efforts. You can do it. Please let me know if i can help somehow. My DM would always remain open.

23 ki shaam ko milenge dostoen. Would come back with renewed energy.

Himmat e marda madad e khuda. Best wishes : )

Targets for April 24 (day 55)

1. Planning the schedule ahead

2. PSIR - will start book reading for 1A. By now, I feel only optional is left unprepared in mains preparation. Have always done it in crash course mode. Fundamentals maybe lacking.

Wanted to appear in RBI and other regulatory body exams this year, but three days back jkpsc has come up with another notification for 2022. Prelims is due in two months. Exam dates are also clashing. Will stick to jkas.

Past few days had been amazing. Have come back with renewed energy. To a new beginning, cheers. Good luck dostoen : )

Pleasant day. Practising quant and reasoning has brought back much needed refreshing energy. After having watched dozens of videos on same, I have realised why my scores in csat have always been 75-80. Old skool.

I meet people scoring 90s on their bad day and even ranging as high as 140, meanwhile I struggle to get more than 90. Don't understand where do I lack

I believe scoring in mocks is directly proportional to either of the following

How many questions do you attempt.

How many times revision of same book or notes have you done in past three months.

How many mocks have you practised in past two months.

Quant and reasoning are more brain engaging exercises than history and economy. Tiresome day.

Reviewing - Quant (ratio, proportion, ages, time work), Reasoning (analogy, number series, blood relation, ranking, clock) done. GA skipped. Meditation missed.

Targets for April 30 (day 61)

1. icar ao (5/15) - 200 Q each on quant, reasoning

2. pranayama, meditation 2x

Let’s finish off this April very well.

Good luck soldiers, keep the josh high !

Reviewing now - Quant ( distance time, permutation, combination, probability), Reasoning ( syllogism, analogy, letter series) done. Meditation missed.

Targets for May 1 (day 62)

1. Meditation 2x, gain 2kg this month

2. icar ao (6/14) 2 mock tests of 3 hours each and analysis

Anybody else faced time problem in actual prelims (specifically last year one)?

I mean I can solve mocks in 1 hour/1hr 15 minutes /sometimes 1 hr 30 minutes but in actual paper 1st round took almost my whole two hours. It was a mess.

Any suggestions on how to improve is welcome.

Hi dost, I have had similar experience like yours. In every prelims, I have faced this problem of paper completion. I see majority of people making three rounds, but for me, completing is a challenge, both in mocks as well as upsc prelims.

Few suggestions I feel to speed up the process could be - more revision that can help in faster recollection. Secondly, keep looking at watch every half an hour. Keep micro targets of attempting 35 questions every 30 minutes rather than 100 in two hours. Thirdly, try avoiding leaving too many questions for the second round. When I saw 2019 paper, my set had initial 10 questions from science, then I was not aware regarding the magic of option (d), so i turned 4-5 pages and started attempting from there, this worked very well. Last, have faith and keep smiling during the paper as my other friend just mentioned. It helps. Always remember, performance during exam is as important as preparation for the exam.

Since you take less time in mocks, avoid overthinking in upsc prelims. I am sure, this time you would complete before time, good luck : )

@Jammu I agree with your suggestions to improve the speed of solving. However, I have a different approach on deciding how many qsns to leave for 2nd round. I think in your 1st round you should solve only those questions in which you are 100% sure. As trying to solve questions in which you are not confident in 1st round could break the flow and even make one doubtful and frustrated and lead to silly mistakes. Last year I tried to do most of the paper in 1 go, though I was able to finish the paper in 90-100 minutes but I made large number of silly mistakes as I became frustrated due to constant interruption of the flow.
Doing paper in rounds has one more benefit i.e. as one would have read the question paper once, questions are in the subconscious and now a more informed call can be taken on which questions can be solved by elimination or other techniques and allocate time accordingly.

Yes friend, i completely agree with you. By doing in rounds, one can also gauge the difficulty level of paper very well and attempt appropriate number of questions accordingly.

I said it in the particular context that if one finds finishing paper a challenge, then more questions should be solved in first round.

Whatever suits one should be pursued.

Personally, I have a very strange habit. If I read a question, I will definitely attempt it because I never gets time for round 2. So i have attempted 93/99/100 questions in one go in last three prelims. It paid well, but I honestly would never recommend this to anybody. I also have this habit of scoring just on margins near the cut off. The reason is obvious I feel, that is I have never been able to optimise the number of questions to be attempted. So, I do recommend doing in rounds, if possible.

I would suggest not to skip exercises.. . Reduce the duration of the exercise, but dont skip it..
Weather here is so beautiful.. I am sure you will have a good exercise session tomorrow morning :)

How do you guys remember "contemporary type" questions in ancient, medieval history. Do you actually remember the dates or is there a story linking two events. Like that Iltutmish-Chengiz khan-Tughlaq-Timur type questions. They completely bamboozle me, no matter how much i try to remember their actual dates. Complicate this with Bhakti Sufi saints and it becomes unfathomable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I made a table from old ncert. The list may not be exhaustive but can definitely help in answering or eliminating the options. Sharing screenshots. Won’t take more than 15 minutes to learn them all.

Hi. Both have not been subsumed in GST so far. In the recent Budget, Surcharge on LTCG was mentioned.

Cess was also applicable on one automobile purchased in previous fiscal year. I have attached the screenshot.

I had one doubt on this. I asked it then to some economics optional aspirants but could not get answer. Sharing here. Cess, what I have understood is levied on ‘tax’, that is ‘CGST + SGST’. But here, it is levied on ‘basic price of automobile’. Somebody please enlighten where I am going wrong.

Targets for May 31 (92) - targets repeat.

Was unsure about posting targets for now, upsc marksheet made the evening awful. Same marks for the third time. But need to carry on somehow. One friend rightly written here before - things don’t just happen on their own, they are made to happen.

Good luck dostoen, sending you all best wishes and positive vibes.

Always remember - it’s okay to be afraid, it’s okay to be anxious, but what is not okay - is having less faith on self.

I’m sure all of you will do well, lots of love ❤️

Bhai read this

invent yourself and then reinvent yourself,
don’t swim in the same slough.
invent yourself and then reinvent yourself
and
stay out of the clutches of mediocrity.

invent yourself and then reinvent yourself,
change your tone and shape so often that they can
never
categorize you.

reinvigorate yourself and
accept what is
but only on the terms that you have invented
and reinvented.

be self-taught.

and reinvent your life because you must;
it is your life and
its history
and the present
belong only to

you.

Don’t let anything to take away  your happiness and enjoyment from life as said- “The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them.I shall use my time.

Salaam sahab, so good to see you here, keep inspiring : )

Hi all, I want to check Toppers Copies Subject wise !
For Ex : In Essay i want to see all topper copies (be it from any year) , then for GS1, then GS 2 etc...
In vision it is classified candidate wise, and that too not clearly mentioned about subjects.

Does Forumias have such topper copies section classified on basis of subject ?

Can some one kindly suggest, where can we access topper copies in better way ?I Hope it will be helpful to many others as well.
Thanks in Advance !

@AzadHindFauz @sjerngal @Jammu @DM @Pantheon If you came across any such site kindly share it here :)

Hi. I’m not sure if we will get it in as much organised way as you mentioned.

Last year, I scrolled through topper’s marksheets, wrote down 4-5 toppers for each paper, downloaded their copies, and made folders as such. This was a good exercise, can be done now.
