CSE 2022: Plan/ Strategy/ Daily Routine

This is an everything thread for all stuff 2022. You can post your daily goals, end-of-the-day updates, weekly targets or any weird thing you use to measure your progress. You can put into words & post the soul-sucking sadness that is threatening to devour you & your productivity. You can write what made your day & let others experience the happiness too, at least vicariously. This is a thread to pick each other up. This is a thread to keep each other accountable. This is a no-judgement zone.

--------

“This is one more piece of advice I have for you: don't get impatient. Even if things are so tangled up you can't do anything, don't get desperate or blow a fuse and start yanking on one particular thread before it's ready to come undone. You have to realize it's going to be a long process and that you'll work on things slowly, one at a time.”

Revising poorly and not clearing prelims is what everyone - the 99% do. How soon you realise the link between revision and performance enhancement is what will help you clear the prelims.

You have to revise like a maniac unless you are born with the photogenic memory. The good news is when you start revising you mind will expand and your ability to remember stuff will exponentially increase.

But first you have to reach that stage. This is not without a learning curve.

@Neyawn Sir, The mains syllabus( especially optional) is like an enticing cheesecake promising everything good and wonderful, finding it very difficult to completely switch to Prelims preparation with laser sharp focus. Plan on doing that from 1 Feb, come hell or high water, and give it 4 months. ( 1st attempt) I have read your posts on 5 months for prelims plan which seems very logical, however I have altered it to 4 months( with great fear, guilt and anxiety). Hope the ship sails through.

Hello good people. At the outset, I had flunked the Prelims 2021 by at least 20 marks to the cutoff.

Lately, I have been busy due to disturbances in my family and personal life, as they say, life is not that easy as it seems.

I stand here today confused and anxious about my preparation. I have been totally off track and lost touch with my preparation since November, credits to life being a b*tch. Not a convenient excuse to justify my wrong-doings, but just letting you know the background of it.

I am looking at two path in front of me.

1. Prepare Mains specific as I haven't got the time to do so in the last months. This because I haven't completed my optional and Mains specific subject, and the unending FOMO.

2. Go all out on Prelims as I haven't cleared it in my previous attempt (not even close to clearing it)

I seek help in these gloomy times and hope there would be a right way for me to go forward now on. Help me by putting some light to my scenario in totality.

@orlandomazzotta in my first attempt due to lack of proper planning and long term vision regarding the preparation, I went all out with prelims preparation and did not do much about mains. Qualified prelims but was nowhere in the race for mains, could not complete the syllabus and did not even write 1 mock and as expected mains was a total disaster. After that since prelims was scheduled to be just 3 months after mains again had to study for prelims. Thankfully it got postponed and I got time to align my preparation and this year mains is going a bit satisfactorily, don’t know if it’s enough but at least I have a little hold over the subjects now and have a better vision regarding my preparation. You also seem to be in the same boat as I was last year and if i were to do it all over again. I would maybe skip the upcoming attempt or if that’s not the option then take a leap of faith and give it maybe just 2 months and take your chances with it. And dedicate time to completing mains syllabus. At least the static portions of the syllabus and optional. It will boost your confidence, align your preparation and give you a long term vision regarding your preparation. Getting stuck in the pre mains cycle is the worst thing if your mains prep isn’t up to the mark.

Need a advice what one needs to do strategically revise to overcome FOMO of previous read parts. How one should incorporate revision cycle in preparation. Please enlighten us.

Once a week, look back at what you have read. Also can you not give 90 minutes verydaybto reading what you have already done ? Like before going to bed or somtime in between. Remeber you have to have enough number of iterations ( and underlining / highlighting / scribbling ) such that you reach a stage where you are only needing to turn the pages.

Would anyone be interested in forming a group of 3-4 people for answer writing, specifically for the vague and non-standard kinds of questions that UPSC is asking? Basically the idea is that each day one of us will post a question in the group. The question must be from mains PYQs, and specifically those questions which are not intuitive (e.g. impact of cryptocurrency on society, earn while you learn scheme etc. from this year's papers). Then everyone will brainstorm over it and post their answer or at least outline of an answer. We won't read up on the topic asked, rather the whole point of the exercise would be to try to utilise existing knowledge in a new context. This is because, inevitably, in the exam there will be questions like this. It will be better if we are in the habit of tackling them.
